KyleBeats – Beats Please!

KyleBeats - Beats Please! There’s music that you have to be in the mood for, and then there’s music that puts you in the right mood. Beats Please! is one that puts you in a good mood. I was on the train the other day feeling a little worn down from the day in day out stuff. I went through a few songs on my iPod, and remembered I had new stuff to listen to. Beats Please! put me back in a good groove. This will put you in a good vibe. I would have to say he covers the Detroit sound great and adds his own twist it. Check out Hi Detroit and you’ll see what I mean.  Kylebeats makes you feel it on each track. Since then I’ve been digging around to see what else Kylebeats has out.  Download Beats Please! here, and check Kylebeats on twitter. BIG thanks to Gritty Goat for the post.

Michael Jackson Thank You

update, video / 6 Comments

THRILLER COVERNot sure what to say, Michael Jackson entertained and influenced generations of people and artists world wide…and going stronger with an upcoming tour. My favorite MJ moment was when my Mother took me to the mall and surprised me by stopping at The Warehouse record store. She knew what I wanted to buy with the money I had saved…Thriller. I didn’t think about the tax. Come on I was a kid, and my Mom paid the rest. I can remember playing that record over and over again (yeah it was a vinyl record). The title track Thriller had narrations by Vincent Price and scared the *ish outta me…every time. I have the record to this day. I have lots of memories like many of you, share them with each other and spread the love.

Thanks for the memories and the music Michael Jackson.

UPDATE: Fashawn & Exile at Turntable Lab

Posted by aaron on June 22, 2009
update, video / Comments Off

When the Turntable Lab has another in-store, GO! It was dope. Exile got the crowd movin, then Fashawn breaks out the mic. They give everyone a greeting and bust into the tracks from the upcoming album Boy Meets World. To keep the party going Exile kicks out some crazy beats on the MPC in between tracks. They set that place ablaze. There were are handful of guest apperences by Aloe Blacc, Evidence, and Planet Asia. But the kicker was the folks in the crowd like The Alchemist, El Prez, Blu, and Iriscience. I started leaving and noticed this other cat walking to Turntable Lab and it’s Houseshoes. The place was filled with Hip Hop that night, so next time show up. Getta copy of Boy Meets World when it breaks.

Muamin Collective - Would Be Free“Can I get some real HIP HOP?!” That’s what I hear folks say from time to time, but  I think I found it. Well, it found me. I got an email from these cats letting me know J1 turned them on to the site. They enjoyed it, and got some stuff for me to check out. Now it was way late and I was ready to call it a day. I downloaded the Muamin Collective’s album “World B. Free”, and just wanted a quick listen before bed. I wrote these cats back after listening to a few tracks. I ended up listening to the whole thing, it’s hot. I woke up the next day and rocked it on the way to the office. Just some background on the album title “World B. Free” it’s named after the old Cleveland Cavs power forward. This is real hip hop, so download World B. Free here, and head to Muamin Collection on BandCamp to get everything else these cats are crankin out. Yes its that’s hot. BIG thanks aLiVE for gettin at me wit this and J1 for passin the word. Check out Maumin Collective on MySpace.

Mixed Practice – Homegrown The EP

Mixed Practice - Homegrown The EP

“To know your future you must know your past” George Orwell

Wit that said, lets go back a lil ways and check out Mixed Practice. Growing up in SoCal I had my own underground hip hop heroes. From cats like Jason (from The UHH!!!) rappin in school at lunch to the Pharcyde (before makin it to the radio). I didn’t catch too much from the Bay except for Too Short, E-40, Souls of Mischief and others with that Bay Area sound. About ’96 groups like the Visionaries, The Loot Pack, Alkaholiks, and The Pharcyde starting makin head way, and I was all about that.

Fast forward to a few days ago. I was checkin the fam at SweetBreads and ran across this scan image of a tape cover that had hand written “MP Limited Edition” that caught my eye…Mixed Practice HomeGrown the EP, and dated 1995. I read the article and followed the links to CBRap and read some more. Mixed Practice was a group made up of Eclipse (the beat maker), and 2 emcees Prop and Flex. The group lasted about 3 years, but left behind a dope “EP” that people have been buyin and passin around for years (now very hard to find). The production and the lyrics are what you would hear today, but made in ’95 on a slim budget. I’m amazed that talent can get over looked like that…SLEPT ON! These are the true Hip Hop heroes that keep it movin. Read the article and get inspired. Make things happen, and learn from the past. Download Mixed Practice – HomeGrown the EP and know there are always cats cranking out good Hip Hop, so keep diggin. BIG thanks to SweetBreads and CBRap for diggin deep on this one and shining some light on it.

The Alchemist – Smile ft. Twista & Maxwell

Posted by aaron on June 17, 2009
update, video / Comments Off

This video will make you “Smile” fo-sho. The title sequence alone is dope, but the people they have smiling give you that good vibe. The Alchemist made a hot track with Twista and Maxwell, but Jason Goldwatch it the faces wit smiles. By the end of the video I was grinning from ear to ear. Jason Goldwatch has been making videos for a while wit  gangs of notables under his belt like; Evidence  – For Whom The Bell Tolls, Dilated Peoples – Back Again, 88-Keys ft. Kanye West – Stay Up!, and The Loot Pack – Whenimondanic just to name a few. This cat is makin his way through hip hop wit a video camera, so don’t blink. You might miss something. Keep an eye out on Jason Goldwatch for another dope video.
