B+C got invited to check out Shafiq’s rehearsal and interview at the KXLU radio station Thursday night. Camcorder in hand, it was an experience. The video gives you a glimpse of the rehearsal, so you know the show is going to be banging. The rehearsal is for the upcoming show Plug Research 2010 (December 22). In addition to the crazy lineup there will be DJ sets by Deadelus, J. Rocc, & Kutmah. Your host for the evening is Pharoahe Monch! What are you waiting for? GO GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!!! BIG thanks to Rocío for the invite and DJ Chuck. The Band:Andres Torres – Guitar, Brian Martinez – Bass, I Ced – Keys, Computer Jay – Keys, J1 – Drums, & Te’Amir Yohannes Sweeney – Percussion
The first project I heard from Thelonious was Fear of Flight and it was dope. I kept checking back with Thelonious, and he just cranked one beat tape out after the next. I have had the honor of doing the art for one of the many beat tapes, Big Wheels & Gold Teeth, but also keep it in heavy rotation on my iPod. A few days ago Thelonious let me know he was getting ready to put out Life Of A Teenage Champion, and explained that he was feeling really good about this one. I was excited for him and couldn’t wait to hear the progression that Thelonious made from his first beat tape to this Life Of A Teenage Champion. Thelonious still makes long beat tapes; and with 21 tracks Life Of A Teenage Champion is no exception. Download Thelonious – Life Of A Teenage Champion here. Also check out Thelonious’ interview on Infinite Cycle. BIG thanks Thelonious for banging out good work and learning from it.

I’m an 80′s baby and thought some of the stuff that came outta there was wack. Yeah I said wack. Anyways, rocking Sudan Life’sThe Soundbomber Does The 80′s made me reminisce about the good things in the 80′s; like a Commandore 64, Eddie Murphy Movies (that were rated R & funny), and Voltron (f*!k a Power Ranger). I guess the 80′s were the sh*t. Sudan Life kills it with this 80′s sample. He admits himself that some are good and some are bad, but either way I think you’ll bump The Soundbomber Does The 80′s like it was 1984. Download Sudan Life – The Soundbomber Does The 80′s on bandcamp.com. BIG thanks Sudan Life for the heads up on this. Keep those beats coming.

J. Bizness dropped Reason Beats & Pieces a while back and it was something to rock to. You can’t go too long without hearing a J. Bizness beat, he’s everywhere. J. Bizness teams up with Ayiro, another dope beat maker, for Cali Fire Commission. Earlier I was going through downtown L.A. and the tracks fit the mood. It was a cinematic moment. A few days ago I was talking with J. Bizness on twitter about the tracks I was digging, but you can rock the whole thing and won’t be disappointed. Don’t sleep on this one people. Download Cali Fire Commisson Vol. 1 on bandcamp.com. For more info on J. Bizness & Ayiro check them out on MySpace. BIG thanks J. Bizness for the low down.

I have a love-hate relationship with EP’s. When I love it, I hate waiting for the rest of the LP to come out, and Something Out Of Nothing is no different. After listening to the 8 track debut EP…a few times I was like, “When’s the LP coming?!” SelfSays has a classic style of flow with a Detroit twist that complements the electro-sapce beats. The cover art is a trip too. Reminds me of Fly Lo’s Los Angeles. Something Out Of Nothing is a chill EP that you can easily put on repeat. I was sleeping on this one. SelfSays dropped Something Out Of Nothing in February, but I’m awake now. Download SelfSays Something Out Of Nothing on Bandcamp. Also check out SelfSays on MySpace and Twitter. BIG thanks SelfSays for keeping it fresh.

If you’re not familiar with DJ Buddy, he does the Mini Mix series. B+C was the first to drop the Trek Life x DJ Buddy Mini Mix. DJ Buddy is at it again by teaming up with another of our favorite emcees Frank Nitt for L.O.V.E 4 The Streets Mixtape. Frank Nitt is always on the go, and I’m surprised he had time to crank out another project on top of his already busy schedule, but lucky for us he did. L.O.V.E 4 The Streets Mixtape is like getting a Frank Nitt’s greatest hits mixtape. I don’t think I even skipped one track. DJ Buddy kills this mix, with his selections, the upbeat pace and transitions. L.O.V.E 4 The Streets Mixtape really shows DJ Buddy’s mad skills. Download L.O.V.E 4 The Streets Mixtape here.Check out the Mini Mix series and DJ Buddy tv. Frank Nitt’s on a European tour, but catch a show when he comes to your town. BIG thanks DJ Buddyfor the heads up. Keep cranking out those mixes.

Boy Meets World is what you call an instant classic, without a doubt. Fashawn put out One Shot One Kill and I couldn’t stop rocking that. It was in heavy rotation on my iPod. Boy Meets World was going to drop a few months later, but I didn’t have to wait that long. Fashawn and The Alchemist put out The Antidote which is also dope. Boy Meets World was produced by the one and only Exile. From Dirty Science to Below the Heavens you can’t stop him. Even if you haven’t heard of Fashawn (…yet), you can’t pass up another Exile banger. Boy Meets World is a must have, so GO BUY IT! BIG thanks Fashawn & Exile for making dope music.

Val The Vandle is at it again. Bringing the acts you want to see, and ones you NEED to see. This Friday The Spliff’s got the best from the I.E. Noa James. The only way I can describe Noa James is he’ll spit ill lyrics, choke you out with the mic cord, and stomp a hole in your chest. He’s that ill. Check out Sounds Of A Monster and you’ll know what I’m talking about. And on the other side of the spectrum you got Kooley High. The last time they were out here I didn’t get a chance to see them perform, but this time I’m there. If you get a chance catch Kooley High’s documentary One Day before you head to the show. To round out the list you’ll have Ty & Kory from Buddha Brown, Speak from AppleBird, and Hawdwerk & Jansport J-who dropped High Power Moves a while back, so download a copy of that too. VerBs will be your host for the evening and always on deck Val The Vandle, Spintelect, GroWeyez & Printz Paul. This will definitely be a show to see. Catch you all at The Spliff! BIG thanks to Val for the heads up.

Los Angeles, stand up for my man Inka One. Because of this cat, Boombox is one of the dopest events in L.A. With top notch artists dropping in and album release parties Boombox is a must go event. So head to Grand Star on December 5th to celebrate Boombox Three Year Anniversary with Inka One, Ben Diggin, & One Man Jazz. In the beat lounge Frank(E), Bency, and special guest DJ set by Talib Kweli. I suggest you folks get your best dancing shoes and show up early. There will be some giveaways and of course good music. BIG Thanks to Inka One, Ben Diggin, & One Man Jazz for putting on Boombox, and to many more.
