April 3rd BOOMBOX is going to be on and popping with special guest DJ Battlecat. I don’t usually do this, but check out DJ Battlecat at Discogs. His career is more than impressive…it’s off the charts. DJ Battlecat will be blessing BOOMBOX with a DJ set that should be crazy. DJ Expo & DJ A1 will be holding it down in the beat lounge. The night will be hosted by a special guest that’s known for the condiments (Ketchup and coming soon Mustard) TiRon. And always to keep the party moving, your resident DJs Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazz. No need to bring your boombox to this party. Just your party shoes.

Kendrick Lamar (EP) is another one I’ve had in heavy rotation on the ipod.  Is It Love is the track that pulls you in.  There’s a lot of good stuff coming from the West, and Kendrick Lamar is adding to the count.  Keep killin ‘em.  The first time I heard of  Jerome D was when he shot that Carter Video, and I knew it wasn’t going to be the last time.  Kendrick Lamar’s She Needs Me is another dope video from his latest projects.  Don’t sleep on Jerome D.  I’m sure you’ll be knocking on his door soon.  Download Kendrick Lamar – Kendrick Lamar (EP) on BandCamp.  BIG thanks Kendrick Lamar for making good music.

First off, I have no idea about the water bottle, and second Inka One is crazy with this Zojirushi Mix. I mean check out the tracklist. He goes from Black Milk, Little Dragon, to J. Rocc & Dam Funk. That’s not all, he’s got some local celebrities on this like DevonWho, Aspect 1, & J. Bizness. Inka One drops lots of exclusive and unreleased tracks, so this is a mix worth downloading. I would not be surprised if he knows each people/group personal. Trek Life is a man on a mission.  Touring Europe, doing shows on both coasts, dropping projects in between, and still making time to drop in at an in-store.  Recently Trek teamed up with J. Bizness to bring you Rhymes Within Reason.  This 10 track EP is produced by J. Bizness and with Trek on the mic, you can’t go wrong.  There’s a handfull of special guest appearances by Oddisee, Ragen Fykes, and DJ Buddy making Rhymes Within Reason ON FIRE!  Rhymes Within Reason is one of 3 projects that Trek is dropping this year, so keep your eyes & ears open!  Also keep them open for my man J. When URB magazine put TAIS on the Next 1000 list, it’s for a good reason.  TAIS dropped Too Complex earlier this week and it’s banging.  Here is an emcee folks need to study.  Not only for TAIS‘ lyrical skill, but for his staying power.  TAIS dropped 2 mixtapes, leaked a couple of tracks in between, and lots of videos of his shows. Deep is a banging track and now there’s a video?!  Who needs a music video channel.  I was really digging the intro to the track.  The colors were busted up in some scenes which gave it a cinematic feel.  eLZhi’s The Leftovers Unmixedtape is a must have with a gang of dope tracks.  BIG shout to Gerard (Victor Atillo) for making a dope video. I have to say I’m sorry for holding back on this one.  This post is long overdue.  I was kicking it with the  LA Stereo fam and met Jazzi.  We talked for a while and it came out that she makes beats.  At first I was like, “what’s this little girl know about making some beats”.  I say little girl, because she’s little and a girl, nothing more.  Jazzi looks like the girl next door or someone’s little sister.  A few nights later I looked for her beat tape The Girl Beatz Volume 1, and I’ve been playing it since.  The Girl Beatz Vol.1 is banging.  It doesn’t sounds like what’s going on now, but 3 or 4 steps ahead.  Don’t get it twisted when you talk to Jazzi because she can beat talk the talk with the best of them.  Trust me there is a reason why The Girl Beatz Vol.1 is in heavy rotation on the ipod.  Download Jazzi – The Girl Beatz Vol. 1 here.  Also check out  Jazzi’s Her Couture on BandCamp.  BIG thanks Jazzi for making big beats!

I’m a sucka for videos.  I got an email from the great folks at Sweetbreads Creative Collective about DaVinci’s new video What You Finna Do.  I think shooting video or stills in black & white is tricky, but done right can come off very raw & artistic.  Shooting What You Finna Do in black & white really drives the story-telling lyrics from DaVinci home. DaVinci – Hustler’s Theme (Prod. By Blunt) Download

Mr. Crooks does it again with Diamonds & Guns.  The title track is a banger.  Diamonds & Guns puts you in an Audrey Hepburn movie with a heist and the villain gets away.  Maybe it was the cover art that made me envision that.  Either way Stevie Crooks kills that track.  Crooklyn is another track that I can’t get outta my head.  This is one artist not to be slept on.  I rocked Stevie Crooks’ CSTC Mixtape for a while, and Diamonds & Guns is the only reason I retired it from my ipod.  Download Stevie Crooks – Diamonds & Guns on BandCamp.  You can also find CSTC Mixtape there too.
