LMNO & Kev Brown – Selective Hearing Part 2

Posted by aaron on May 31, 2010
album, download / Comments Off

Man, let me start off by saying BUY Selective Hearing Part 2J1 introduced me to Kev Brown at a benefit party for Kutmah at the Verdugo Bar.  I bought Kev Brown’s Random Joints a while back, and was a big fan (a House Shoes recommendation).  Kev was in town to do a tour with his partner in crime LMNO, from the super group The Visionaries, to promote the new album Selective Hearing Part 2.  When I got a copy of this I played it all day.  I got a chance to play some tracks on Soundwaves and played The Ultimate.  LMNO and Kev Brown kill it on the mic.  And the album uses all James Brown samples, it’s off the hook.   This is already in heavy rotation on the ipod.  Buy Lmno & Kev Brown – Selective Hearing Part 2 at Up Above Records.  BIG thanks Kev and Trevor for opening my ears on this one.

Blakface – Blaktastic Vol.1

Posted by aaron on May 28, 2010
album, download / Comments Off

I was catching up on twitter and ran across a Jansport J tweet about a free download… Blaktastic Vol. 1.  I’m all about the free downloads, but I took a second look at that one.  “Blakface, what?!?”  It was well worth that second take.  At first I wasn’t sure what I was going to get, but a couple of tracks in I turned up the volume.  If you walked up to me while Blakface Blaktastic Vol. 1 was bumping in my headphones, I wouldn’t be able to hear you. That’s how much I was intoit.  Jansport J has 4 tracks on Blaktastic Vol. 1 (Can’t Let Em Down, Lady Hip Hop, Where U R, & Hello Mornin) that are dope, but you’ll dig this from beginning to end. Download Blakface – Blaktasic Vol. 1 on BandCamp.  BIG thanks to Jansport J for tweeting about this one.

Elevated Ruffians – Magnificent Soul (EP)

I don’t know, maybe I’m a sucka for sampling, but the Elevated Ruffians know how to make it a hit.  Or it could be because they’re rep’n the I.E. to the fullest.  Or just maybe it’s the combination of word play and content.  Either way…DOWNLOAD IT!  I got an email from the  Elevated Ruffians with all kinds of links and musical goodness.  The Magnificent Soul EP was in there too.  I was listening and when I heard Noa James on Nothin’ New, I knew I had to post this up.  The track was popping, but got a couple levels higher when the Noa dropped some lines. Download Elevated Ruffians – The Magnificent Soul EP on Bandcamp.  Check out The Magnificent Soul LP on ReverbNation. Keep your eyes open for other projects from their crew, elevatedSOUL and MAGNIFICENT RUFFIANS.BIG thanks Elevated Ruffians for shooting this over. Keep doing what you’re doing.

I was first introduced to Seven Day (Jay Diction & J Listed) through VersisSeven Day and Versis have been working on a few things here and there, so when I got an email from the duo I checked it out.  They shot a few tracks to B+C now and again, but I wanted to hear what a completed project sounded like…not bad, not bad at all. Seven Day’s Concepts still has my ear, and I’m looking forward to see what else they’ll drop.  Download Seven Day – Concepts on BandCamp.  Also check out Versis – Gotta Love it (produced by J Listed).  BIG thanks Seven Day crew for getting at me.

SigNif x Haz Solo – The Transition Remixes

Posted by aaron on May 16, 2010
album, download, ep / Comments Off

Haz Solo is cranking out the beats once again.  This time he’s teamed up with New York based emcee SigNifHaz gave me a quick run down on how this project came about.  He linked up with SigNif, a fellow Milwaukee native, to produce a track (AfterNoon Jazz) on her album The Transition.  That project was coming to a close and Haz was digging it.  He wanted to make more, so he requested the acapella version of the title track, and made 4 different versions.  Haz then got 4 other tracks which turned into The Transition Remixes.  I’m a Haz Solo fan anyways, but I think SigNif is coming for you emcees.  Download Signif x Haz Solo – The Transition Remixes on BandCamp.  Also check out the original album, SigNif – The Transition.  BIG thanks Haz for the heads up.

FREE KUTMAH!

Posted by aaron on May 12, 2010
event, update / Comments Off

If you have stopped in Poohba Records, it’s possible you may have seen Kutmah digging for records.  If you have ever been to Low End Theory downtown, then at one point or another you have heard Kutmah spin. If you have ever been to a random party and chatted with Kutmah, then you understand why so many people are up in arms to keeping Kutmah here.  If you haven’t heard, he is being detained and possibly deported back to the UK.  Our (U.S.) system has failed Kutmah and his family.  In support Beats+Crates urges you to sign the petition, go to a FREE Kutmah event, and/or do what you can to help a fellow music lover/contributor in his time of need.  Click here or the image above to visit FREEKUTMAH.com, and please take the time to read the background on the whole story.  Thank you.

Oddisee rounds out his seasonal collection with the 4th and final installment Odd Spring.  Oddisee is one of my favorite producers/emcees, and you know you’re going to get quality music from him every time.  Odd Spring is another collection of Oddisee tracks that sets the mood for the season.  The tone is set right away with The Blooming and builds up with Birds & Bees (featuring the Diamond District).  Half way through you might as well be outside with the volume cranked up.  Download Oddisee – Odd Spring on BandCamp.  Also pick up Oddisee’s Traveling Man.  BIG thanks Oddisee for making the dope music.
