In fact, it’s so good, and I don’t want it to be slept on, that I’m now hitting the real talk button. ** If you’re not up on Richard Wright, Belvi, Captain & J Bizness and you reside in the 909, 951, 626, 714, 949, 562, 323, 310, 213, 818 (including the overlay area codes that I just don’t know off the top of my head) – how strong is your iTunes collection really? Step your playlist game up!**

I can’t believe I have to find the words to explain what went down Wednesday night at Zanzibar. Incredible, wow, unreal, great, THE FUNK! For real, this was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long long time. I knew something good was going to go down when people started calling me a week before the event. I hit up my homie Dan to roll out to the event and take photos. Good thing I did because this was an event that shouldn’t have been missed.
Dan and I showed up to Zanzibar, and one of the first people we saw was Dam Funk. No matter how many times I’ve talked to Dam, it still feels surreal to me. I mean its Dam Funk! A note to all you music lover’s, show up early and you might meet your favorite artists. Anyways, we talked for a while as more folks started coming in. Zanzibar was getting packed pretty fast. Later on Jacqueline, from Mint Collective, needed a little help interviewing Electric Wire Hustle, so you know I was down for that. Walking back I ran into friend after friend rolling up for the show. It was going to be a great night.

The thing I love about what’s going on in music right now is there are no limits. Folks are mixing old music collections with new, collaborating with eachother, and not waiting for anyone to produce projects. E.Super are those cats. Kuest 1ndr, Maestroe The MAd Monk, Alpha MC, Mac Digi and Alwaz Prolific are E.Super (Electro Super). A while back I got an email about E.Super dropping their album Side A urging me to check it out. I read the EPK and was like “Alpha MC?! That’s the homie. I gotta check this out.” I have to tell you I think I have been playing it a little too long without telling you all about it. It felt like I hit the lotto and didn’t want to share. Side A has an electro vibe right away, but mixed in with chill rhythms and the occasional vocals making it super. I’m looking forward to the next project E.Super drops. Buy E.Super – Side A at Turntable Lab and get updates about E.Super on Tiwtter. BIG thanks to Kuest 1ndr for the update.

Adolescent Funk is culled from a collection of cassette tape masters that DAMturned over to Peanut Butter Wolf. These tracks are from his teenage years, so fans can really get an idea of his artistic progression. You can buy it early from Stones Throw, before the wide release on the 26th.

Before I begin, Drift has gone beyond heavy rotation on my iPod. You ask, “What can be beyond heavy rotation?” Well Nosaj Thing – Drift is on my iPod, computer, iPhone , and now on B+C. I listen to Drift at least once a day and tweet about it when I can. Enough about how much I love Drift and on with the music.
Nosaj Thing’sDrift has been out for a while but when you discover it won’t matter when it was made. Quest starts it off with an easy build up and about 30 seconds into it, the claps kick in. Building to get your heart pumping on Fog. I could go track by track, but want to leave it to those who haven’t discovered Drift yet. I will say IOIO had me hooked. When I need to crank out work or get somewhere in a hurry, this is the track that gets played. Drift is an album that doesn’t over do increasing the tempo, and has a great balance of eclectic sounds. Nosaj Thing does a great job on this album and I can’t wait to see what’s up next. Go buy Nosaj Thing – Drift on Alpha Pup Records. Google Nosaj Thing and discover some remixes. Also check Nosaj Thing on Sound Cloud and Twitter. BIG thanks Reth for the heads up.

This is a very special post. Not just because it’s B+C’s 300th, but because I have written about K. Sparks and Ritchcraft in other posts. Don’t sleep on K. Sparks and Ritchcraft. These are a couple of very talented cats that are doing big things. It’s always a good feeling to know that great artists keep elevating their game.
K. Sparks is a dope emcee that has an incredible style. With Super Senior you can get the full impact of who K. Sparks is, or so I thought. I caught a couple of other tracks that he’s dropped, and each one has this kick to it like eating spicy noodles or something. I’ve also noticed that K. Sparks is down to collaborate with new producers to come up with dope projects. When Ritchcraft shot me an email about The Art of Ritchmixing: A K. Sparks Adventure I was like, “WHAT? That’s dope!” Ritchcraft is linking up with some good folks and cranking out the projects. I think he has a sound that is complete and can stand alone, and with an emcee adds to the fire. These two make a great match, so I was more than excited to cop this project. The K. SparksIntro had me cracking up. Stepping into Good Morning featuring Frank Ramz you know you’re going to get a solid EP. I really hope K. Sparks and Ritchcraft crank out another project. Download The Art of Ritchmixing: A K. Sparks Adventure on Band Camp. Also check out Intalek & Ritchcraft – Lives and Vibes and K. Sparks – Super Senior. Both are dope projects. BIG thanks Ritchcraft for the heads up. Keep doing what you do.

I have been playing Are and BeUp So High for a while. They sent in a track previous to shooting over the EP Up So High and I wasn’t sure if they had something or if it was just another track. Shortly after Are and Be sent in Up So High which gave me a lot more to think about. I gave Up So High a few rounds of play and started grooving to it more. I can see the potential that Are and Be are bring with Up So High and I’m looking forward to the LP. Download Are and Be Up So High on Band Camp. BIG thanks Are and Be for the heads up and keep going.

Any video that has Exile showing you how he makes beats, you know I’ve watched it over and over. Hence the reason I’m just now posting it. I have the Radio album and have played it just as many times if not more than this video. The whole concept is great and to me sampling is expanding past what is usually done. Go buy Radio and also check out Exile – AM/FM on Plug Research. BIG thanks Exile for making the music.

When you’re out and about on the streets, you never know when someone is going to drop some dope tracks on you. That’s what happened to me the other day. I was kicking it at The Originators store and I spotted my man DJ Trackstar hanging out. We got to talk about projects and he dropped Rockwell Knuckles – Choose Your Own Adventure on me. I first heard about Rockwell Knuckles via a tweet about a track that Black Spade produced. Shortly after that, Build and Destroy dropped with Breakthrough featuring Rockwell Knuckles. Long story short, on my way up to the bay I had Choose Your Own Adventure in my car and played it for 3 of the 6 hours it took me to drive. As I was driving I even tweeted a thanks to Trackstar for giving me this heads up. You just have to give Choose Your Own Adventure a listen. It is dope. From the production to the clever lyrics, you’ll Choose Your Own Adventure. Download Rockwell Knuckles – Choose Your Own here. BIG thanks Trackstar for the heads up on this one.

Oh yes, it’s that time again. October 2nd is going to be off the hook. The Boombox crew has come up with some heat for this line up. Ced No, Coultrain and Black Spade making up the incredible group the Hawthorne Headhunters. If you don’t know them yet, this is your chance to hear their great sound. Also keep an eye out for the Hawthorne Headhunters LP and their individual projects. Next on the bill my man Blu and his band No York. Blu is everywhere right now including a couple of tracks on The Roots new album. Blu is also getting ready to drop an LP, so keep your ears open. Show up at Boombox and catch a sneak peek to both groups and their new joints. Gotta love the first Saturday of every month, so get your dancing shoes, all of your friends, and head out to the Boombox. BIG thanks to the Boombox crew Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazzfor putting on dope events.
