Just what you have all been waiting for… more Crown Royale! A video and an EP from Crown Royale, what more can you ask for?! From their self-titled LP, Crown Royale, We Gotcha takes you through some of the spots in sunny SoCal, and to our beloved Fat Beats. They are just giving you a little taste of what’s to come December 7th. Yes, this is just a sneak peek on what’s to come! Enjoy the video and download Crown Royale – Crown Jewels: A (2)Dope EP here. Herma Puma – Synchromystic

album, download / Comments Off

A combination of Simple X from Chicago and Pimpernel Jones from the UK, Herma Puma brings a wide range of Hip Hop to your speakers. Herma Puma’s Synchromystic isn’t only a mix of some dope beats, but features emcees from both sides of the world. Chapel Perilous, Love Sweet Love, Sunday, Disposable, and Psyke Out are just a few that I have on repeat. Synchromystic is one of those albums you take to a party, push play, and wait for people to ask, “who is this?” and how can they get a copy. Well I know just the place you can get it. Download Herma Puma – Synchromystic from BandCamp. Well worth it! Also check out Herma Puma on Twitter. BIG thanks Simple X and Pimpernel Jones Jones. Keep making that good music.

Mello Music Group – Helpless Dreamer

Posted by Data One on November 23, 2010
download, track / Comments Off

Mello Music Group, in my opinion, has built up an impressive catalog of independent Hip-Hop in a relatively short period of time. You may already be familiar with their work with Diamond District (XO, yU, Oddisee), Apollo Brown & Trek Life; in which case, the odds are quite good that you agree with me.

Helpless Dreamer is a compilation album that releases Nov 23rd, and is a preview of their 2011 slate. With contributions from Black Milk, Magestik Legend & Roc Marciano, Helpless Dreamer checks in at a solid 13 tracks – from both the lyrical and sonic perspectives.

Highlights include: Oddisee’s innate sense of space on the soulful Different Now, featuring Toine. The Detroit triumvirate of Finale, Invincible & Black Milk on Don’t Sleep. KC native son  Stik Figa‘s collaboration with Oddisee, co-produced by Dunc entitled,  From the Top, which is part of  Oddisee’s effort to promote regional Hip-Hop flavors.

Beats+Crates got the jump on your other favorite blogs with this one.

Kappah – Welcome Superstereo Stars

Posted by aaron on November 22, 2010
album, download / Comments Off

I’m not even sure what to say about this, but WOW…GET IT NOW! This cat Kappah is beyond a description of how dope these beats are. I first read the email music submission, and then a week later played Kappah’s Welcome superstereo stars. I did a double take checking out who it was on my ipod. When I got home that day I went through my emails to find out where this dope music was coming from… ITALY?!? Crazy right, and ever since then I’ve been checking out what else Kappah and ReddArmy Records have been putting out. Kappah is a producer/beat maker that works closely with his collection of talented friends on ReddArmy Records, and other Italian hip hop artists. He can also be found making music with his group Madrac. You can hear a little bit of that U.S. beat making style, but clearly his own style.  This is one cat’s music not to be slept on. Download Kappah – Welcome superstereo stars here, and please support independent labels that put out quality music like ReddArmy Records. BIG thanks Fulvio for the heads up.

Episode 006: Modern Funk Flavor

I love it when another episode of B+C Radio pops off. In this episode DJ R-Cade presents Modern Funk Flavor. DJ R-Cade is bringing the funk in a proper way. He’s grabbed everything from Curren$y, Proh Mic, Termanology to a Max Kane remix of Al Green. Modern Funk Flavor has a chill vibe with energy that gets you dancing… Even for those of you that don’t dance. One way or another R-Cade dropped a mix that will get you moving. Download B+C Radio: R-Cade presents Modern Funk Flavor here. Check out DJ R-Cade on Twitter and NOAFF. BIG thanks R-Cade for bringing that modern funk to our ears. And a BIG shout out to Teeko.

Interview: Black Spade

Posted by aaron on November 05, 2010
beat tape, interview, update, video / No Comments

I’m a long time fan of Black Spade, so it was a really cool to get a chance to chat with him about past projects, stuff he’s working on now, and the future of Black Spade. He put out the mixtape Build and Destroy, and most recently a beat tape called The Day We Landed. I can’t stop playing either one. I met up with Black Spade at I Ced’s place when they were taking a break from working on some Hawthorne Headhunts’ tracks. I got a little insight about who Black Spade is and what his future plans are. I did learn one important lesson about doing interviews- Don’t stop recording until you leave, because we talked about everything. I know I’ll be doing another interview with him when he drops back into town. Check out Black Spade – The Day We Landed. BIG thanks Black Spade for taking the time, and making the music. Keep it going. BIG shout out to I Ced for the sound effects (ha ha) and the place.

Def Sound – Say.Hello.2.Mr.Sound.

Posted by aaron on November 04, 2010
album, update, video / No Comments

It’s always refreshing to see an artist step out of the norm and bring you something very creative. Def Sound is that cat who is doing Hip Hop any way but normal. His album Def Sound IS Alive has taken me on a roller coaster of sound with a video to match. Say.Hello.2.Mr.Sound is visually complicated, stimulating, and a ”delightful visual.” It’s got this dope illustrative look with a freeze frame filter. Check out the video and Def Sound’s album Def Sound IS Alive.

Rufio – The Edgewater

Posted by aaron on November 02, 2010
beat tape, download / No Comments

My man Haz Solo wised me up on Rufio and his beat tape entitled The Edgewater. Haz is a cool cat and collaborates with folks from all over, so it didn’t surprise me when he said Rufio is from Sacramento. What did surprise me, is how quick Rufio cranked out a beat tape. Not only instrumental tracks, but tracks also featuring a few emcees. Yes Haz is on it too. In the email Haz explains how Rufio came up with the name The Edgewater, “He was in my neck of the woods (Madison, WI) last week and I challenged him to make a beat tape during his stay and entitle it the name of the Hotel he was staying in.” Sometimes it’s as simple as that folks. Download Rufio – The Edgewater here. BIG thanks to Haz Solo for keeping me in the know.
