Episode 007: First Class

All right we have another episode of Beats+Crates Radio for your ears. Like my man Abraham would say, just like records we have come full circle. Back to the creator of Beats+Crates Radio J1 aka THE DEER with First Class. Yes this is a ticket into his record collection, and there’s no other way than first class. This is the guy who’s digging up the samples from Hip Hop tracks to the undiscovered. Your ears will love you for it. The stars must have been aligned when J1 made this mix. I seen a couple of joints from the Heavy Traffic soundtrack, and I was like no way. I watched Heavy Traffic for the first time a few months ago, and thought to myself, I needed to buy this soundtrack. Normally I’m not telling you who you should keep a close ear to, but this is the one time I am. From this point on you should have Belvi & Richard Wright Players & Peacoats on heavy rotation. Before you know it you’ll be saying, “I leave’em froze dog. I’m just to cold dog.” Trust me, I caught myself saying it when it’s not even needed. Cold, Vann Clayton’s a bad man on that beat. 2 Playa 4 U ain’t no joke either. Kuest 1 took a sunny afternoon, put a beat on it, then Belvi & Richard turned it gansta with the lyrics. Magestik Legend is making The Great Escape from the norm. This cat isn’t letting anyone slow him down, and has got his eyes on the prize…success. Let me get serious with you for a moment. I just got done listening to a couple of “big” name artists that recently dropped albums, and well I could have spent my time better. To me Magestik Legend should be out there like those “big” name artists because he would do a much better job giving people quality music. With some help from Mr. Jonathan Kim, Magestik Legend will be making his way to the top real soon. Long story short Magestik Legend’s The Great Escape is a great album. What did I just see?!? I’m not sure, but I know I have to watch it again. This video is crazy! Visually you can’t touch it with a 10-foot pole, and the track(s) are dope. My man Greg “The Dude” does great videos, but this is one side we don’t ever see often. He’s a motion graphics mad man.  Not only giving you this graphic controlled chaos, but uses all 3 remixes of Exile’s Population Control (from the AM/FM album) in the video. DJ Sean O. was talking about this video for a while, and I can see why.  Greg is pushing that bar higher folks, so keep those ideas pop’n. This cat is too funny, but on a serious note is also very talented. I’m trying to figure out what else is going on in Richmond, either way Erk The Jerk is making it happen. I’ve been holding on to Hood Nerd 2: Memoirs of the Invisible Man, and rocking it in between every other mixtape on my iPod. On I’m A Jerk Freestyle Erk’s lyrics kill me every time. You’ll crank it up in your car and will put it on repeat. This is worth your time. Recently Erk The Jerk dropped his album Nerd’s Eye View, and it’s on my list to check out. If you’re looking for Malcolm X, Lapu-Lapu, an emcee with political insight, and a rebel leader that will go to bat for you… Bambu is that guy. I first heard of Bambu when I downloaded Dub MD & Illmind’s Blaps,Rhymes & Life Vol. 2, and the one track I couldn’t shake was Bambu’s Quit. I don’t know how many times I played that track before I found out there was a video for it. What makes me respect this cat is Bambu shows his pride for the Philippines and LA in almost ever track. He’s showing love worldwide. This project Bambu has linked up with Soul Assassins’ DJ Muggs to bring you Los Angles, Philippines. Bambu tells his story, and gives some social commentary of what’s going on in the world today.  DJ Muggs brings that hard-hitting Soul Assassins vibe with the beats. This is one NOT TO BE SLEPT ON! You know that album where on the first track you crank up the volume in the car or your headphones? Skeme’s Pistols and Palm Trees is that album. It was released like a minute ago, and I crank it up  every chance I get. If this album came with instructions it would say something like, “House party, backyard barbecue, riding around town… Just push play.” One night I was strolling around downtown rocking Pistols and Palm Trees, and LA Night featuring Dom Kennedy just happened to come on.
