Pheo – Wriot!

“Let’s burn a building, tip a car, crash a hotel with some rock stars” the makings of starting a Wriot! If you have anything to do with a record label and signing artists, this post is for you. Pheo is this cat from Mo Val that I heard of from my IE people. He dropped the Word to Your Blogger mixtape a while back, and since has done a grip of guest spots. Dropping his second project, Pheo is causing a WRIOT! The title track is a banger. Last Night Morning has this crazy beat, and at first I was like” he’s going to rap to that?!? How?” Oh yeah he sure does. Pheo rounds off Wriot! with a dope collabo with AFTA-1 with Lil’ Bit of Ice.  Don’t sleep on this one people. “Im out tonight, hope them freaks is out, and the way these girls be acting just might cause a WRIOT!” Download Pheo – WRIOT! here, and stop by the fam at East Of LA for more details. BIG thanks to Speak for tweeting this one.

DaVinci – Blame Game

update, video / Comments Off

I started watching this video and was like  ”wow this is a dope track”. I watched it a second time and saw my man Al Jieh from SWTDRS Creative Collective playing almost every role in this video. On the third time I was trying to figure out how they got it to look like that. I didn’t know what a digital harinezumi was, but I do now. Check out DaVinci and let it take you around Fillmore in the Blame Game, and keep your ears open for Feast Or Famine (EP) & The MOEna Lisa (LP) to dropping soon.

Hellfyre Club – Prometheus

Posted by aaron on March 18, 2011
download, mixtape / Comments Off

You take a rapper, lets say NOCANDO, match him up with dope beatmakers, and you know a dope idea is getting ready to explode… HELLFYRE! Now throw in the homies VerBs, E.Super, Bomb Zombies, and a handful of other cats and you get the Hellfyre Club. To be honest I wasn’t sure what I was going to get outta this, but it was like a pleasant punch right in the face. Hellfyre Club presents Prometheus is packed with heavy hitting beats, and clever emcees.  I just have to put it out there, but if you aren’t up on E.Super you need to be. Prometheus is the titan that stole Zeus’ fire and gave it to the humans…and Hellfyre Club has taken it and put it in your ears.  Read the LA Times article when you get a chance and download Hellfyre Club – Prometheus here. BIG thanks to VerBs for tweeting the LA Times article on Prometheus. You cats keep doing what you’re doing.

King Fantastic – Lost Art of Killing

update, video / Comments Off

While checking out Vimeo videos as usual, I ran across King Fantastic’s Lost Art of Killing video that DJ EROK liked and I decided to check it out. I can’t even begin to tell you what I was thinking when I saw this video. It was like watching Dexter or something, but raw. I had to watch it again. If you think this is ill, check out King Fantastic’s Why? Where? What? video. Side note don’t watch it at work! Enjoy.

Trailer Limon – Special Dedication: The B-Sides

download, ep / Comments Off

Words by: Jacqueline of The Mint Collective

When my friend Eric Boss first introduced me to Dan Aka Trailer Limon and I heard his music, I knew he would be on the shine soon.  Trailer has got some of the most diverse sounds packed into one project I have ever heard.

This latest EP, Special Dedication – The B-Sides consists of 5 tracks running the gamut of hip hop, soul, funk, chillwave and even uptempo danceable ish.  Makes sense because this dude is a multi-instrumentalist who delves into his creations using a mixture of analog instruments, synths, samplers, electronic drums and anything else he can get a noise out of.  From throwback disco and hip hop jams to afro-Slump and future funk, Trailer is a musical chameleon with his mind rooted in funk.  He is so sick he gots the funky flu.

His current projects include The Pendletons; a soul/slump outfit with E Da Boss, New Future; a future funk band with fellow funkster Stanely Vanagan, and Secret Service; a psychedelic tribal krunk duo with Oakland artist Sun Ru. Download Trailer Limon – Special Dedication: The B-Sides on Band Camp, and also check out Trailer Limon on Twitter.

Ghostpoet ft Kano – Cash & Carry Me Home/rmx

update, video / Comments Off

I was bumping around on tumblr (when it works) and found Turn Off Your Radio. This is a great tumblr site to follow if you want to keep up with UK tunes. Anyways, I saw that they posted Soul Culture’s video of Ghostpoet in the Red Bull studio remixing Cash & Carry Me Home featuring Kano. This is a really dope track and I’m looking to dig up some more for Ghostpoet. Check out his EP, The Sound of Strangers on Band Camp.

Swiff D – Ladders

Posted by aaron on March 07, 2011
beat tape, download / Comments Off

It’s always good to see a cat doing it big with other folks, and take time for themselves to produce quality stuff as well. Swiff D has done just that. Known for making tracks for Pac Div, Busta, Anthony Hamilton, Dipset, Snoop Dogg and many others, he put out this high energy, with some chill tracks, beat tape called Ladders. After listening to it about a half a dozen plus times, I think… I know this is a cat you shouldn’t be f*ck’n with. Driving around, loud at a club, or just kicking with your people you’ll definitely get some head nods from it. Download Swiff D – Ladders here, and check him out on Twitter. BIG thanks Swiff D for tweeting this. Keep doing what you’re doing.

The Underachievers vol. 2

Posted by aaron on March 06, 2011
album, beat tape / Comments Off

Some folks whistle while they work, others find tunes and crank it up.  Earlier this year I got an email about this beat tape by The Underachievers titled The Underachievers Volume 2. I want to say I was in the middle of a project when I downloaded it. I put it on, and left it on all day. I can honestly say The Underachievers Volume 2 put me in “GO” mode. The Underachievers have put together a collection of beats that got made, but weren’t picked up for some reason or another. Based on my own listening experience, this is definitely worth listening to. It’s a heavy instrumental album with nicely placed samples. Job well done. Download The Underachievers – The Underachievers Volume 2 on Band Camp. BIG thanks to Anthony for shooting this over to me.
