Mike Gao – Sun Shadows

My man Mike Gao blessed me with a copy of his latest album Sun Shadows. He told me whether it’s good or bad just let him know what I thought of it. I dropped it in the iPod and cranked up the volume. I thought it was going to be 9 tracks of hypnotic beats that you can play in the background while you do other stuff… Boy was I wrong. Sun Shadows kicks off with this real space-age sounding organ in 10th Letter, and then the bass kicks in as if it’s going to snatch your breath right from you nose. Yes it caught me be surprise. It was like I was listening to each sound, each note, very carefully. If you think I’m pumped about it now, just wait until you get to Worthy Unworthy. Mike and I were talking about a magazine that was going to review Sun Shadows, but weren’t feeling it. I have to tell you, this is an album you may not get it… right now, but down the road it will click to you. You’ll say “where was I when this came out?” Buy Mike Gao – Sun Shadows at Alpha Pup Records. Also check out Mike Gao on Twitter. BIG thanks Mike for the heads up and making a progressive album.

Foreign Legion – Night Moves

“It’s been 13 years, five record labels, five managers, three dj’s, three lawyers (both entertainment and criminal), countless producers, court dates and versions of that CSI program later, and Foreign Legion are ready to release their third studio album, Night Moves.” — Quality Control

Going through all that, how do you not root for them?! To top it off Foreign Legion’s Night Moves is dope. Please, don’t sleep on this duo that’s bringing classic tracks to your ears. From the beginning it gives off good vibes, and it’s sad when it ends.   Night Moves is one to check out. Good thing for repeat. I can’t pick out one track to talk about because I would take this to a party and knock over anyone trying to change it. Piano Banger will get the crowd moving on the dance floor for for sure. Night Moves is down right feel good party music. Buy Foreign Legion – Night Moves on iTunes. Keep your eyes and ears open for these cats. I’m sure they will be bringing more bangers. BIG thanks to Karim at Quality Control for keeping me up on the Bay.

Top $ Raz – The Man

update, video / Comments Off

It’s time to give this cat Top $ Raz his overdue and well deserved credit. Jessica (from I Heart Dilla) told me about Top $ Raz a long time ago. I was slow to catch on, but my ears are wide open now. Yes Jessica when I’m in NYC you can say, “I told you so!”. In The Man, Top $ Raz brings out that 50’s swagger with the black suit, black sunglasses, and all the ladies cutting a rug. Noisemaker Media and Top $ Raz picked a banging track to collaborate on a video.  I’m about to watch The Man again. Check out Top $ Raz –  The New Flesh on Band Camp. BIG thanks to Noisemaker Media for making a dope video and Jessica for introducing me to Top $ Raz’s music.

Low Budget Crew – The Masters

If you don’t know about the Low Budget Crew I’m guessing you have heard from one of them and you just don’t know it. Well they have come out with a beat album, yes I said album that is a dedication to the game of golf…also titled The Masters.  Just like the Masters (PGA Tour), after playing 18 tracks you’ll feel exhilarated, and want to do it all over again. Sorry no green jacket after this. yU, Kev Brown, Roddy Rod, Kaimbr, & Quartermaine break out the 9 irons and drive each banging beat straight to your ears. I played The Masters without skipping any tracks/holes. Well wroth it, so go buy Low Budget Crew – The Masters on Band Camp. I think I’ll go play a around of golf with The Masters in the headphones. Better yet just bump it in the car. BIG thanks to the Low Budget Crew for making a banging album.
