Kone has made a banging track and a video to match. The New Los Angeles is so visually appealing I had to ask my man Kone all about it. I don’t know if he wants me to tell all of their trade secrets for making this video, but a lot of the effects you see were done in an analog fashion. The “smoke” transitioning to different colors overlaying the story of a day in the life of Kone in the New Los Angeles is wild. You just have to watch it more then once to get the full impact. Check out Kone – The Tractatus on Alpha Pup. Also look for him on SoundCloud, and Twitter. BIG thanks to Kone for making dope music and great video. Keep it going.

Going through my emails as usual, I was looking for a video to write about and ran across Koncept and Tranzformer Day Dreaming. I started thinking about when I would day dream in class. I checked out the video and started nodding my head to the track. Below the video was a link for a free EP, so I downloaded it. I played the whole thing. If More Than Meets The Eye is an EP, I can’t wait to hear Koncept and Tranzformer’s LP. This is a must to check out. Download Koncept & Tranzformer – More Than Meets The Eye at DJ Booth.Net. Also check out Koncept on twitter. BIG Thanks Brown Bag All Stars for the heads up.

I’m almost speechless when it comes to Cookies or Comas. Jean Grae’s Cookies or Comas was needed more than fresh air in LA smog. I Rock On is that joint you need to crank the volume up to hear the heavy bass hit. I’ve got the headphones on, and think I might go deaf by the time I finish writing this. Cookies or Comas also has Talib Kweli, Styles P, Royce Da 5’9” and Pharoahe Monch spitting on tracks. If you have never heard of Jean Grae (which shouldn’t be the case), Cookies or Comas is the prefect introduction to this lyrically sharp, witty emcee. Download Jean Grae – Cookies and Comas on DJ Booth.net. Also check out Jean Grae’s blog and on twitter. BIG thanks to DJ Booth.Net for hosting the mixtape.

I had to post this up. When people reach out to you from around the world because they love your music, that is love. Oddisee has been cranking out the tunes as a producer and an emcee, so it’s great to see that cat get rep’d like that in Belgium. The Blooming has a very cinematic feel, and the storytelling aspect is great. I love how they show the watch several times to go with the ticking in the track and to represent time passing. Great video.
“Belgium’s ZBS Studio reached out to Mello Muisc Group about permission to do a video for Oddisee’s “The Blooming”. MMG of course was honored to have them interpret the song and apply their vision to the track. The resulting marriage of visual storytelling & instrumental perfection is a narrative work that tells the story of time’s passage in the life of a boy. The video was directed, shot, & edited by Tomasz Cibulla and Wojciech Drożdż of ZBS Studio in Belgium.”
Go pick up Oddisee – Odd Seasons at Fat Beats.com. BIG Thanks Mello Muisc Group for this one.
Once again I was watching DJ Buddy TV , and got some good info on new music. My man Trek Life gave a shout out to this producer cat named KIC who dropped Kicology Vol. 1 a while back. Trek is on the up and up when it comes to recommending music, so I checked it out. I downloaded KIC’s Kicology Vol. 1 and it was really good. This is the point where I usually tell you “I have it in heavy rotation,” but I think I’m just going to tell you to GET IT! In addition to checking out Kicology Vol. 1, KIC released Kicology Vol. 2 a few days ago. Download KIC – Kicology Vol. 1 & 2 on Band Camp. It’s right in my queue to download. BIG thanks to Trek Life for another great recommendation.

Strictly Social is another LA staple that I’m glad is around. Neo-soul, funk, Hip Hop, world famous DJ’s, and beat makers have blessed the stage many times over. I was watching DJ Buddy TV one Wednesday night. Mr. Sobers and up and comer A3 were promoting their collaboration project Study Long, Study Wrong. DJ Buddy and Trek Life interviewed the panel and afterwards it was the live performance segment of the show. DJ Buddy threw on a track, I started nodding my head, and then Mr. Sobers dropped in with ill lyrics. I was like “what track is that?!” They rocked a couple more tracks, and peaced out. Right away I went to Illregular Instrumentals to cop Study Long, Study Wrong. The title track Study Long, Study Wrong will have you cranking up the volume. If this is Mr. Sobers‘s debut album, I’m afraid to see what else he’ll break out with next. Don’t get it twisted that cat A3 is bringin it. Download Mr. Sobers X A3 – Study Long, Study Wrong on Band Camp. BIG Thanks to Trek Life, DJ Buddy TV and Crew.
