Right now I can’t think of a producer I’m more inspired by than Chanes. This cat is cranking out about an EP a month. Writing a post with 3 EP’s is a first for me, and well worth it. I was listening to The Fringe the other day and was like, “this music has mystic hypnotic powers to it because I can’t stop playing it.” Maybe that additional ingredient is passion, love, or determination, but whatever it is it will keep you listening. When I took off on vacation I dropped in Lifted, BCKWDS, and TRNSFXD. It put me in deep thought and was the perfect soundtrack for it. Ever since I’ve been back they are still on heavy rotation. I normally won’t try and put all this good music into one post, but the way it sounds and provokes good vibes you need this in your life. Buy these and also check out Chanes – Renegade Hands on iTunes. BIG thanks to Chanes for being consistent with that good music. This dude’s got a bright future. And another BIG thanks to My man Ben from Insect Records and House Shoes.
Discovering gems like this EP is one of the reasons I keep doing what I’m doing without getting paid. I was going about my day and listening to stuff on Sound Cloud. Checking out all kinds of tracks and just exploring. About 10 tracks later I ran across Tiger Tsunamiand the artwork to Re: Antarctica EP. “Dope cover and interesting group name, let me check this out.” First track ,Antarctica, “where can I get this?!?” I left it playing as I checked out Tiger Tsunami’s Sound Cloud profile page. Clicking every link they had on it. Waves,“where’s the download button?” I was reading the tags they labeled their music; ambient electronic, future bass, post-dubstep, and couldn’t think of a better way to describe it. I love love love the Re: Antarctica EP, and can’t wait until they drop more music. Download Tiger Tsunami - Re:Antarctica EP on Band Camp. BIG thanks Tiger Tsunami for making great music.
Hit play, lean back, close your eyes, and relax your mind. As the music finds it’s way into your brain through your ears, thinking there is no other place to be but right here. I’m telling you, I have been working to Nefarious!’s The Dream Theory, relaxing, walking, and just eating while this plays in the background. It puts nice calm, good vibes in the room. I hope that’s what the cat was going for cause that’s what it does. Very nice album. This is one album you should pick up. Go buy Nefarious! – The Dream Theory on Band Camp. BIG shout to The Soul Dojo, and BIG thanks to AIR; the tumblr site where I found out about it.
This video is crazy and strangely hypnotically fun with the kids singing the chorus. I dig the vibrant colors, dope lyrics and beat. Usually the mirror effect in a video can be overwhelming, but in this case it was done right. Measure Of Progress is a fun loving track with a positive message about life. Watch this video enough times and you’ll start humming the chorus too.Great video. Check out Apollo Campbell & David Vamgel – The Moth, Flame & Phoenix on SoundCloud. BIG thanks for the email.
My man KONE is hard at work on the beats. He’s dropped a Starship 27 bonus track called Funk 3482 featuring SelfSay on Insect Records, and now Legend Days. Last week he was out performing at BOOMBOX and selling shirts and CD’s. KONE is a busy dude. Legend Days has this tribal, spiritual, self discovery vibe. You’ll think a little deeper with this one. Kone amazes me with his selection and combinations of sounds, samples, and drums. Bringing it all together to bring you some dope music. Check out Kone – Legend Days on Alpha Pup and take your mind on a journey. BIG thanks KONE for the heads up. Keep doing what you’re doing.
I’m going to give you my opinion on this dude Oddisee. I think we are witnessing the makings of a legend. I really can’t think of a project that he’s a part of that folks don’t love. Above all Oddisee is a down to earth cat. Odd Renditions Vol. 001 is another flavor of Oddisee, but still his sound. Odd Renditions is just a teaser to his upcoming album People Hear What They See out June 5. BIG thanks Oddisee for making great music. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Checking my emails late at night like usual, and got one from the good folks at Cov Original Music. That first track, The Real, is a banger. After that I just kept it going. Before I knew it I had listened to the whole thing. HawdWerkkeep doing what you’re doing brother. Check out HawdWerk at Blue Collar WERK. BIG thanks to Cov Original Music for the heads up.
Pheo is one of my Hip Hop staples on the iPod. From the Word To Your Blogger mixtape to his latest project, They Soulection (EP), the quality is up there. Pheo also connects with other great artists like the lovely Nikko Gray on Who Unplugged Your Halo. I just want to connect the dots right: Pheo’sDrop (2012) samples Pharcyde’sDrop (1995), which sampled the Beasty Boys’The New Style (1985). Drop is that bass heavy, get the f*ck up and dance track. Mad props to S-X for doing that track right. I can’t leave out my man AFTA-1 on How Eye. I knew Pheo and AFTA-1 were a deadly combo on Lil’ Bit Of Ice from the Wriot! project. If you haven’t heard of Pheo yet, I’m sure your favorite music magazines, blogs, channels, and stations will be playing his tracks soon. Get Pheo – They Soulection (EP) on Band Camp. This is a “name your price” EP so show him some love if you dig it. BIG thanks Pheo for making good music. Keep it going. BIG shout to those cats in MoVal.

I’ll tell you, my man Greg the Dude knows just about everyone. I was at Greg’s spot for a party and was talking to this one cat Dobrega about some music. He told me a little about a project he was working on and would keep me posted. I didn’t hear from him for a while and ran into him at the Hit+Run show. We had another great convo about art and some music. Later that week Dobrega shot me a link of his finished project, The Rebuild EP. Now I’m always trying to multitask, but when this crazy 8-bit sound hit the headphones I was like what’s going on. Sounded like Zelda, but then a nice rhythm creeps in. It was so hypnotizing I totally forgot that the 8-bit sound was in there. Freedom Dance damn near made me forget I had other work to do. That first go-round of The Build EP got my full attention… so I played it again. I really dig the layering of sounds on this EP. If you are looking to be trippin off some music Dobrega will have you in a trance with The Rebuild EP. Check out Dobrega – The Rebuild at Dobrega.com. BIG thanks Dobrega for the good tunes. Now I’m waiting to see some visuals man.
