I’M NOT PLAYING…BUY THIS SH*T NOW! Ok, I’d heard the buzz about Strong Arm Steady’s (Krondon, Phil Da Agony, & Mitchy Slick) In Search Of Stoney Jackson, but it was the midnight release and in-store performance at Fat Beats that pushed me over the edge. (If you haven’t seen it, google that sh*t. I would have paid for that show.) Earlier that day aStrong Arm Steady podcast mixed by House Shoes and J. Rocc was dropped with all the extras. I bought the album that night and bumped it all the way home. Even took the long way. I can’t say anything bad about In Search Of Stoney Jackson; every track is a banger. Funky beats by Madlib, hard-hitting lyricism by Strong Arm Steady, and guest appearances by Phonte, Planet Asia, Tri-State, Fashawn, Talib Kweli, Oh On, Evidence, & more mean there’s no way this could be a bad album. Stop what you’re doing and go buy In Search Of Stoney Jackson! I got mine at Fat Beats. BIG thanks to Strong Arm Steady and Madlib for making great music. You cats set the bar high.

The tracks selected for Classic Collaboration takes me back to high school, and some even farther. This was recorded in 2006 at Stacks record shop in Ontario (Inland Empire) while the shop was still open. Classic Collaboration is one of the many projects DJ GabeReal & DJ Ethos are planning on releasing this year. Like another B+C’s hero J1, DJ Ethos & GabeReal used all vinyl to create this dope mix. I dig Classic Collaboration not only for the tracks, but some are remixes by DJ Ethos & GabeReal that are only available on this mix. Check out Classic Collaboration and download it here. BIG thanks to DJ GabeReal for the heads up.

For most of y’all I don’t have to tell you who Houseshoes is, but for those of you sleeping under a rock he is Hip Hop! To the point, laid back, real, Detroit, and all around good dude are just a few ways I would describe Houseshoes. From killing it DJing to making ill beats this is the guy to know. A while back I got this track called Castles by Houseshoes. Since then I’ve been keeping an eye out for whatever he drops, even podcast. Unlike other podcast, Houseshoes’ reads more like a resume and list of his friends. I’m amazed of all the projects and the people he’s worked with. Be sure to check out The Makings and keep your eyes and ears open for his LP, and look for him at Shoes House(Blue Monkey Lounge) in Hollywood. BIG thanks to Houseshoes for taking the time.

The professor of Funk J1 aka THE DEER schools us on Parliament Funkadelic with Cosmic Slop. Take A Trip made me think about every album I owned that sampled those tracks, and that was a dope trip. Cosmic Slop will make you want to dig for more funk, and at the very least will get you out of your seat and dance. J1 drops stuff on us that educates and/or gives us a better appreciation for music (in my case, inspires creativity). If you can catch up with him and chat about music, J1 will definitely drop some knowledge on you. Download Cosmic Slop here and if this doesn’t get you hooked on funk…I don’t know what will. Enjoy. BIG thanks J1 for another dope mix.
Track List:
Parliament – P-funk (Wants To Get Funked Up)
Funkadelic – A Joyful Process
Eddie Hazel – Frantic Moment
Parliament – One Of Those Funky Things
Parliament – (Gloryholastoopid) Pin The Tale On The Funky
Parliament – Bop Gun (Endangered Species)
Parliament – Let’s Play House
Parliament – All Your Goodies Are Gone
Parliament – I’ve Been Watchin You (Move Your Sexy Body)
B+C has been laying low for a while, but is running at full speed. One of the things that got us going, totally came Buy Surprise. Spon aka Sponatola hit me with this mix of beats. I started listening to it while he was giving me the back story. Spon is known for drop lyrics, but wanted to let folks know he can drop a beat too. I wasn’t familiar with Spon the rapper, but quickly got to know Spon the beat maker after playing Buy Surprise back to back several times. Buy Surprise shows the range that Spon has as a beat maker. It went from raw and rough to a big and cinematic sound, and with the help of DJ El Zink it has smooth transitions . Download Spon – Buy Surprise here. BIG thanks to Sponatola for the heads up.
Take A Trip will definitely take you on a trip. I rocked it the first time, and mentally went through my albums figuring out who sampled what. The second time I played it I was enjoying the original tracks, so I played it a 3rd time straight. J1 is throwing out the knowledge on this one. He breaks out classics that artists from Mary j., Mos Def, Dr. Dre, to J. Dilla have sampled from artisits like Brenda Russell, L.T.D., Howard Robert’s Quartet, and Ronnie Laws; just to name a few you may have heard of. Going from The Stashbox to Take A Trip shows the range that J1 has as a DJ, producer, and drummer. Take A Trip will get any DJ or producer to think heavy on their next sample. If you’re like me and love checking out where samples come from (the original tracks), this is the podcast for you. Download Take A Trip here. Check out what else J1 is up to on MySpace and Twitter. BIG thanks J1 for another dope exclusive.

You can’t ever get enough of Jay Dilla. J. Rocc brings another installment to “Thank You Jay Dee.” I’m telling you, when J. Rocc did the first one I burned up my ipod playing it.
If you have been sleeping under a rock or just don’t know how far Dilla has reached, check out Thank You Jay Dee v. 1-4. You’ll do like I did when I heard the first one…”I didn’t know Dilla did that one too!” BIG thanks to J. Rocc and Stones Throw for bring it.
