I heard about Sonnyjim from Trek Life playing this track on DJ Buddy TV one night. I had to look this cat up. The Psychonaut is the title track to the LP, but it’s when I heard the Kelatron remix that I put it on repeat. The original track is pretty heavy, but the remix has this nasty dubstep beat. I almost went def cranking up the volume in my headphones. I gotta check out the rest of the LP. Download Sonnyjim – The Psychonaut on BandCamp. BIG thanks Trek.

I’m really feeling this track. The CounterParts are letting you know What We Do and they kill this track. Most fans just see the finished product, and/or get a glimpse of the grind. The CounterParts talk about not buying new kicks to skipping out on hanging out to do what they do. The bigger scheme of things is they love what they do, and it shows. Click the cover art for a free download and check out more of The CounterParts on Beatrock Music. BIG thanks to Fatgums for the heads up.

I am here to tell you, this Richard Wright is that next cat. I’m not going to tell you what I know about Mary Jane, but you don’t have to be with MJ to know this is dope. This joint was first featured on Richard Wright’s#Randommixtape1.0 and now has dropped a digital 12” and video. It comes with an A Capella version, but I can’t see how you would make this joint better. Bombay kills this track and director Alex G hits the visuals. Download Richard Wright – Marry Mary Jane on Band Camp. I do have to give a BIG thanks to my man Trek Life for introducing me to Richard’s music. Click here for the Vimeo link.

Mello Music Group, in my opinion, has built up an impressive catalog of independent Hip-Hop in a relatively short period of time. You may already be familiar with their work with Diamond District (XO, yU, Oddisee), Apollo Brown & Trek Life; in which case, the odds are quite good that you agree with me.
Highlights include: Oddisee’s innate sense of space on the soulful Different Now, featuring Toine. The Detroit triumvirate of Finale, Invincible & Black Milk on Don’t Sleep. KC native son Stik Figa‘s collaboration with Oddisee, co-produced by Dunc entitled, From the Top,which is part of Oddisee’s effort to promote regional Hip-Hop flavors.
Beats+Crates got the jump on your other favorite blogs with this one.

This little collabo joint hit the twitternet to spice up your favorite DJ’s set list for tonight. In fact, it’s so good, and I don’t want it to be slept on, that I’m now hitting the real talk button. ** If you’re not up on Richard Wright, Belvi, Captain & J Bizness and you reside in the 909, 951, 626, 714, 949, 562, 323, 310, 213, 818 (including the overlay area codes that I just don’t know off the top of my head) – how strong is your iTunes collection really? Step your playlist game up!**
Give Creepers a few spins and save Thriller for the next man. Your ears will thank you, in French.

The Foreign Exchange should have won the Grammy for Daykeeper. Period, full-stop. Well, Phonte & Nicolay return this fall with an opportunity for voting members to right this wrong, in the form of their third studio album Authenticity. Based on the first single Maybe She’ll Dream Of Me, October 12th will be a Tuesday to remember. Keep up with their latest album and tour info by following @FEOfficial on that website/application that everyone seems to be using.

Bonjayhad me at the first siren. A lot of bass & a lot of soul are mixed up with dancehall rhythms and indie electronic sounds to get the sound that will be featured on Broughtupsy, the full-length release from the Toronto-based duo of producer Ian “Pho” Swain & singer, Alanna Stuart. Bonjay draws a lot of comparisons to M.I.A. & Santigold. I hope they do indeed go for the win and take their place among these artists.

Eulorhythmics is new to me, but anything featuring my man Proh Mic I gotta check it out. Eulorhythmics kicked out a laid back, easy going, vibing track, Hot & Nasty. I played it a couple of times back to back, and got it in heavy rotation on the ipod. Eulorhythmics are dropping their album Green St. & Avers this month, and we will keep you posted. For now check Eulorhythmics – Hot & Nasty feat. Proh Michere. BIG thanks to Anthony Fields from All Natural Inc. for the heads up, and Kenny Fresh for the connect. Keep your eyes and ears open because All Natural Inc. is dropping some hits.

I’m a sucka for videos. I got an email from the great folks at Sweetbreads Creative Collective about DaVinci’s new video What You Finna Do. I think shooting video or stills in black & white is tricky, but done right can come off very raw & artistic. Shooting What You Finna Do in black & white really drives the story-telling lyrics from DaVinci home. Also check out DaVinci’s Hustler’s Theme below. DaVinci’s new album, The Day The Turf Stood Still, will be available March 9, 2010. Check Sweetbreads Creative Collective for more details. BIG thanks Al for the heads up.

- If you haven’t caught up to Buff1, it’s because he’s busy cranking out projects like Crown Royale, Athletic Mic League (AML), and not to mention his solo projects but he still finds time to drop in on a show or 2. This track, Original by the Space Invadas, features Buff1 & RuC.L and will also be featured on Buff”s upcoming project It’s A 1derful Life (drops Dec 2…Buff’s B-Day). The great folks at A-Side Worldwide have been dropping sneak peeks of Buff1′s projects like The Shift (track below). I’m still not sure what project that ones coming from, but I’m sure it’ll be cool. It’s A 1derful Life got folks from Rhettmatic to Cook Classics doing production on it (click the cover for track list). So keep your eyes and ears open on December 2!!! BIG thanks Steph for the heads up.
