THIS IS A MUST…AUG. 7THBoombox Producer Showcase Vol. 8. I have never felt so strongly about going to an event before. I just have to say, if you don’t go to Boombox: Producer Showcase Vol. 8 you must be trying to save your house from a fire. The lineup the Boomboxcrew has put together is ridiculous. Ras-G, 14KT, Dert, MNDSGN, F.A.M.E. and DJ sets from D-Fib & GroWeyez. If you haven’t seen or heard about these folks google them, ask a friend, search Beats+Crates, but do what you have to do to understand this show is going to be EPIC. BIG thanks to the Boombox crew Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazzfor putting on dope events. And I’ll see you all there.

Saturday I was getting back into my routine which includes checking Beatminerz Radio with Jessica (i Heart Dilla) & DJ Evil Dee. Jessica dropped a dope track from 80’s Babies, and right away I started looking them up. I found this video to their track I Wanna Talk To You. I was really digging how it was shot, the overlay of other video footage & stills, and it’s overall vibe. The track itself is dope and the album, “Sonic Music”, is worth the listen. Check it out 80’s Babies on BandCamp. BIG thanks Jessica for playing good music.

This FRIDAY (July 30th) it’s going down with a Tribute to one of the creators of the hip hop concert series Unity, Bigga B. It’s going to be an event you don’t want to miss. With performances by People Under The Stairs, Prince Po, The Visionaries, and many more. And DJ sets by Mark Luv & C-Minus.
“Bill Operin AKA Bigga B, embodied the very essence of unity. With his partner, Orlando, his relative/MC Chase Infinite, and Martin of Cranes’ and later Martins Records on Pico & Redondo, Unity was able to bring “underground” hip hop acts such as Wu-Tang Clan very first performances in L.A.”
“May 2, 1999 while in Arizona working with new artist Bad Azz, Bigga B suffered a heart attack. His legacy in Hip Hop lives on through the memories of the Unity Concert Series, the many artists he served as A&R for on Loud Records and all the resulting projects owed to his introduction of artists to one another.”
I’ve been waiting for this since To Serve With Love. If you don’t know about Black Spade, this is a good time to be introduced to him with his new mixtape Build and Destroy. Once you cop it, I guarantee you will be digging up everything else Black Spade makes. From St. Louis, Black Spade produces banging tracks and has a flow like no other. He’s made an instant classic with To Serve With Love (get it if you don’t have it). He is a member of the super group Hawthorne Headhunters, has contributed to many projects like Starship 27 compilation, and is now here to Build and Destroy. This mixtape is filled with crazy production by Black Spade that has a hypnotic sound that you’ll be nodding your head to. Black Spade has gathered up equally dope guests from Coultrain to El Prez for this project. This is one of those times I urge you to stop reading and download Black Spade – Build and Destroy NOW! Check out Black Spade on MySpace and Twitter. BIG thanks to Black Spade for making the music, and BIG shout to Trackstar, Union LA, & Smoking Section.

To start off, I have listened to this episode of Beats+Crates Radio 12 times (and counting). No joke. J1 has got a group of talented friends, and P.U.D.G.E. raised the bar on this one. P.U.D.G.E. is a DJ, emcee, a beat maker, and continues to crank out the projects. This episode of Beats+Crates Radio, Hanging Wit The Homeboys, covers the Hip Hop gamut in 53 minutes. I asked P.U.D.G.E. about the title and he answered, “Cuz I know and/or am associated wit everyone on the playlist.” I stopped for a minute and was like “wow,” and proceeded to go over the playlist a 2nd and 3rd time. Yes, that dope. P.U.D.G.E.’s got quite a few projects out now, but is getting ready to drop another in a few days on BandCamp. Keep your eye and ears open.Download Episode 004: Hangin Wit The Homeboys here. Check out P.U.D.G.E. on MySpace, Twitter, & BandCamp. BIG thanks P.U.D.G.E. for knocking this one outta the park. Click below “continue reading” for the tracklist.

If you have stopped in Poohba Records, it’s possible you may have seen Kutmah digging for records. If you have ever been to Low End Theory downtown, then at one point or another you have heard Kutmah spin. If you have ever been to a random party and chatted with Kutmah, then you understand why so many people are up in arms to keeping Kutmah here. If you haven’t heard, he is being detained and possibly deported back to the UK. Our (U.S.) system has failed Kutmah and his family. In support Beats+Crates urges you to sign the petition, go to a FREE Kutmah event, and/or do what you can to help a fellow music lover/contributor in his time of need. Click here or the image above to visit FREEKUTMAH.com, and please take the time to read the background on the whole story. Thank you.
