I’m a sucka for videos. I got an email from the great folks at Sweetbreads Creative Collective about DaVinci’s new video What You Finna Do. I think shooting video or stills in black & white is tricky, but done right can come off very raw & artistic. Shooting What You Finna Do in black & white really drives the story-telling lyrics from DaVinci home. Also check out DaVinci’s Hustler’s Theme below. DaVinci – Hustler’s Theme (Prod. By Blunt) Download
El Prez is a Los Angeles staple like the Lakers and In-N-Out. It shouldn’t be a surprise that El Prez’s title Animal Style! and cover art have that In-N-Out look. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. What does surprise me is that he can crank out projects, and be everywhere at once! For reals. I’ve seen him at several events, he’s mentioned on every blog (check the interview on LA Stereo), updates his tumblr site, and tweets throughout the day. I’d call him a super emcee. One Truth – Man vs. Woman
The first thing that pops into my mind when people mention “spoken word artists” is political (or whatever topic that’s currently socially conscious) rhythmical rants. One night J1 invited me to Transmissions at Grand Star to check out this cat One Truth. Man, was that an experience. One Truth had a three-piece band called MugPush and a style far removed from other poets I’ve seen. It felt more like a hip hop or jazz show. Point is, One Truth changed my whole perspective of spoken word artists. His album Soundtrack To Life: New Beginnings also reflects that- it’s one you’ll bump in your car. A while back I connected with Adikt1 and with Kahlee & Uptown Swuite they put out The Seed. These cats stay busy. Kahlee hit me with this dope video, Live On Stage by Krazy Race (ft. Kahlee). Live On Stage has a classic hip hop style to it, so I was feeling it right away. I was digging the graff walls in the background, and hip hop heads rocking to a dope beat. If you haven’t seen F.A.M.E. (Max, Malaguti, & Teeko) live this video will give you a glimpse of their set up. I’ve checked them out when they’ve been in L.A., but real talk F.A.M.E. is a must see! Boy Meets World is what you call an instant classic, without a doubt. Fashawn put out One Shot One Kill and I couldn’t stop rocking that. It was in heavy rotation on my iPod. Boy Meets World was going to drop a few months later, but I didn’t have to wait that long. Fashawn and The Alchemist put out The Antidote which is also dope. Boy Meets World was produced by the one and only Exile. From Dirty Science to Below the Heavens you can’t stop him. Even if you haven’t heard of Fashawn (…yet), you can’t pass up another Exile banger. Boy Meets World is a must have, so GO BUY IT! BIG thanks Fashawn & Exile for making dope music.

- If you haven’t caught up to Buff1, it’s because he’s busy cranking out projects like Crown Royale, Athletic Mic League (AML), and not to mention his solo projects but he still finds time to drop in on a show or 2. This track, Original by the Space Invadas, features Buff1 & RuC.L and will also be featured on Buff’’s upcoming project It’s A 1derful Life (drops Dec 2…Buff’s B-Day). The great folks at A-Side Worldwide have been dropping sneak peeks of Buff1’s projects like The Shift (track below). I’m still not sure what project that ones coming from, but I’m sure it’ll be cool. It’s A 1derful Life got folks from Rhettmatic to Cook Classics doing production on it (click the cover for track list). So keep your eyes and ears open on December 2!!! Buff1 x Shawn Jackson x Diz Gibran prod. by Cook – The Best are Full of Love Download
For most of y’all I don’t have to tell you who Houseshoes is, but for those of you sleeping under a rock he is Hip Hop! To the point, laid back, real, Detroit, and all around good dude are just a few ways I would describe Houseshoes. From killing it DJing to making ill beats this is the guy to know. A while back I got this track called Castles by Houseshoes. Since then I’ve been keeping an eye out for whatever he drops, even podcast. Unlike other podcast, Houseshoes’ reads more like a resume and list of his friends. I’m amazed of all the projects and the people he’s worked with. Be sure to check out The Makings and keep your eyes and ears open for his LP, and look for him at Shoes House(Blue Monkey Lounge) in Hollywood. BIG thanks to Houseshoes for taking the time.
