Sotu the Traveller – HourGlass

Sotu the Taveller hooked up with Nalden to make this ill video for his track HourGlass. It tripped me out at first. I started to hear that backwards record sound on the track and the video was in forward motion. At first there were small changes I started to notice, like the video was going to the tempo of the track, then it would switch to just the beat. It wasn’t until I watched it a second time that I noticed half way through the video, that it goes in reverse. Just crazy. Check out Sotu the Traveller’s album Left on BandCamp. If you want to blast off into space on the soul train, Leonard Dstroy’s Higher Vibrations is for you. The opening track Technical Difficulties had me cranking up the volume. When I got to Sunset Marquis (the second track) I knew I was in for a wild ride. The 8-bit sound is really big these days, but Leonard Dstroy adds a twist to it. I can’t put my finger on it- could it be that he uses a range of samples, or could it be those drums?!? Either way, I got it on heavy rotation. MWCC: Mozambique West Coast Coalition

Al JaZz teamed up with Spon on Brazillionaires, and now he’s back with MWCC: Mozambique West Coast Coalition. Teaming up with Dareenzo, & Origimoz they cranked out an instrumental tribute to the west coast. Now I don’t know what Mozambique’s west coast sounds like, but the way this sounds they might have a city called Compton too. Al JaZz Dareenzo, & Origimoz did a bang up job on this one. You would’ve thought MWCC was done in L.A. somewhere. I’m guessing their style is a combination of the 2 locations. Either way you got to check MWCC out. B+C gets lots of emails everyday, and I’m glad to read them all. When the emails have links that lead to gems, I go bananas. That’s what happened when I got an email from BoomBaptist with a link to his Beat Tape. BoomBaptist posted the Beat Tape to see if folks were getting a feel for it, and I did for sure. I have it in heavy rotation on the ipod now. This beat tape is a little longer then most, but by the time you get to the end you’re waiting to hear some more. When folks send in stuff to B+C sometimes it takes a while, and sometimes…it bumps. Addifi came out of left field with The Green Diner when he got in touch with B+C. Addifi expressed that he’s a fan of the site, and found some great tunes on B+C. He went on to say that he’s a DJ/Producer in L.A. and recently put together a beat tape, The Green Diner. I clicked the link to The Green Diner and before I knew it, I had gone through the whole thing. The Green Diner has a nice build up with Chant Intro and Story Time Cresando. Svetnik is crazy talented. If you don’t know who he is there was a B+C post a while back that was about his other beat tape Lo.Fi. Rocking Lo.Fi made me feel relaxed and at peace no matter what chaos was going down. Blueprint gives you that same feeling with a nice upbeat tempo. I was cranking out all kinds of work listening to Blueprint. I dig the track Making Love To You because it sounds like there is a sample of one of my favorite songs; A Brighter Day by Ronnie Jordan. If there is one producer to look out for, it’s Snowman Jack. He’s cranked out tracks for artists from Guilty Simpson to Magestik Legend. I really got to know Snowman’s work when he did I Believe on the Starship 27 compilation, and that’s when I started digging around. I hit Snowman up to see what he could bless B+C with, and man he dropped these joints and then some. Got an email from my man Spon letting me know that Al jaZz and him just dropped Brazillionaires. The last project Spon put out, Buy Surprise, flexed his beat making skills, and he’s back to flex his lyrical ones. Al jaZz and Spon linked up through a remixed track that Al jaZz did. Shortly after that, they started sending beats back and forth. Most of the samples for Brazillionaires are from Brazilian tracks- hence the name. Thelonious – Life Of A Teenage Champion

The first project I heard from Thelonious was Fear of Flight and it was dope. I kept checking back with Thelonious, and he just cranked one beat tape out after the next. I have had the honor of doing the art for one of the many beat tapes, Big Wheels & Gold Teeth, but also keep it in heavy rotation on my iPod. A few days ago Thelonious let me know he was getting ready to put out Life Of A Teenage Champion, and explained that he was feeling really good about this one. I was excited for him and couldn’t wait to hear the progression that Thelonious made from his first beat tape to this Life Of A Teenage Champion.
