I have a love-hate relationship with EP’s. When I love it, I hate waiting for the rest of the LP to come out, and Something Out Of Nothing is no different. After listening to the 8 track debut EP…a few times I was like, “When’s the LP coming?!”  SelfSays has a classic style of flow with a Detroit twist that complements the electro-sapce beats. The cover art is a trip too. Reminds me of Fly Lo’s Los Angeles. Something Out Of Nothing is a chill EP that you can easily put on repeat. I was sleeping on this one. This cat from the Netherlands has been up on B+C from day one. IllSkiz let us know he was feeling the content. Later down the road he shot us an email with some beats he made and we quickly wrote a post. If you missed the first post about IllSkiz go back and check it out. I first got wind of this cat Rick Hughes from the track In My City off Cali Co-op, and a few folks I’ve talked with dropped his name in conversations. But what made me really pay attention was an email I got from Camille about her post on Arize Magazine’s site. I chatted with her on twitter about it, and Camille told me she was all about getting good music heard. I was down for that, and the tracks she sent were good. Rick Hughes has worked with a gang of people from Kid Boogie to Oh On, so I’d keep a close eye on this cat. Rick, keep making moves…and rep’n the I.E. Download all 5 tracks here. B+C has been laying low for a while, but is running at full speed. One of the things that got us going, totally came Buy Surprise. Spon aka Sponatola hit me with this mix of beats. I started listening to it while he was giving me the back story. Spon is known for drop lyrics, but wanted to let folks know he can drop a beat too. I wasn’t familiar with Spon the rapper, but quickly got to know Spon the beat maker after playing Buy Surprise back to back several times. Buy Surprise shows the range that Spon has as a beat maker. My man Devonwho was tweeting the other day about this nice 11 track beat tape he got in an email called The Other Side Vol. 3 by this cat Weslee Connerzs. He posted up the link, and I checked it out. Now when Devonwho tweets about something he’s got, you know its gotta be good. After rocking The Other Side Vol. 3 I hit Devonwho up about getting a hold of Weslee. Yeah this is something to write home about. I didn’t get much, but this beat maker is from  Philly and has got more in the works. I have never felt so chill checking out a beat tape. If I throw on some  Thievery Corp. or Zero 7 then I’m gone. The good folks at Tablist shot me an email suggesting I should check out this cat Odetta (aka treehouse). I downloaded this genetically titled beat tape called Beat Tape vol. 1, but what I heard was far from it. Laid back, chill, grooves that takes your stress away. The cover art was a little trippy too.  I really like the jazzy vibe that Odetta has. I also downloaded Cut & Paste Vol. 2 which has a similar groove to it, but a gang more track.  Most of the low down I got was from Tablist, but I’m looking forward to doing some more digging. Odetta/Treehouse – Bug juice

I don’t know half of the stuff they are talking about on Rookie Season, but it’s dope. FS Green produced all of the tracks and/or remixed them. Rookie Season really shows the range of talent he has as a producer. I first got wind of FS Green when he started making those Mixing Monthly mixes with Full Crate. They would squeeze a beat or 2 in the mixes. And this is true, when I got to one of those tracks I had to check who it was. For reals. When Rookie Season came out I was like I gotta check that. I’ve been playing this album for a while and still don’t understand half the stuff on it. But I still dig rocking it! I have no idea where Thelonious comes up with these titles, but I’m sure he’s got a good reason for it. I can’t say much about the first track, Big Wheels, except bangin. I don’t know how many times I played it before I got to the rest of the tracks. Big Wheels & Gold Teeth shows Thelonious’ growth and exploration of sounds. In some beats, he drops in movie samples that compliment the tracks giving them a big cinematic feel. Over all Big Wheels & Gold Teeth is another well done beat tape you gotta check out. The end of the album sums it up…”I should have called this shit great.” I got an email right before my vacation from this cat Dylan Thomas. I did a quick look and seen he rocks some stuff with the fam bam Haz Solo. You know that cat cranks out the tunes like crazy. I checked around to see what was crack’n, and Dylan Thomas’ name came up more than once. This album is on fire, and yeah Haz got in on this too. And It Was Good has a laid back and lounge sound that will keep your head nodding. Shelly is one that I can play over and over. I won’t steer you wrong on this one. Download And It Was Good here. Know:Juander kills this album. If I had a rating system, A Kid Love:Beat would get 5 outta 5 mics. I like to take my time to digest an album, but this one I got it from the word go. From the proper production to the ill lyrics I was so blown away. I got a hold of Know:Juander to let him know how ill A Kid Love:Beta is and asked him a couple of questions. I wanted to know how was all worked on the the production, but it was all him. I mean crazy isn’t?! The cats got flows and cranks out the beats.
