I really don’t say much about going to this event except…GO!!! If you listen to music in general, you should be there. If you are thankful for the music J Dilla has blessed us with and everyone that he’s influenced, you should be there. House Shoes, Exile, Jeremy Ellis, and the Boombox crew…you should be there. Unless you’re outta town this will be the spot. Come out and enjoy the 4th Annual Celebration of the life & music of Detroit’s finest J Dilla on February 5th. It will be family, friends and good times. Big thanks Inka One and the Boombox crew. Keep doing it big. I’ll see you all there.

What did I just see?!? I’m not sure, but I know I have to watch it again. This video is crazy! Visually you can’t touch it with a 10-foot pole, and the track(s) are dope. My man Greg “The Dude” does great videos, but this is one side we don’t ever see often. He’s a motion graphics mad man. Not only giving you this graphic controlled chaos, but uses all 3 remixes of Exile’sPopulation Control (from the AM/FM album) in the video. DJ Sean O. was talking about this video for a while, and I can see why. Greg is pushing that bar higher folks, so keep those ideas pop’n. BIG shout to Samiyam, Dibiase, and Free The Robots on those remixes. Check out other works by Greg “The Dude” on Viemo.

Any video that has Exile showing you how he makes beats, you know I’ve watched it over and over. Hence the reason I’m just now posting it. I have the Radio album and have played it just as many times if not more than this video. The whole concept is great and to me sampling is expanding past what is usually done. Go buy Radio and also check out Exile – AM/FM on Plug Research. BIG thanks Exile for making the music.

When Exile released Radio, I ran out to get it. Radio is back and titled AM/FM. Every track is remixed or features a guest vocalist, you can’t go wrong with an Exile project. Your Summer Song, a remix featuring J. Mitchell, adds to how dope this track is. Music video director Jerome D. takes the track to a visual level that I wasn’t expecting. A nice country side drive in a Chevy Impala with 4 different versions of J. Mitchell, while Exile is wandering through the brush switching stations on his radio, you’ll be hooked watching it again and again. Jerome D. does a great job visually representing a retro radio feel with the color section, screen distortion, and yes a retro radio. Go pick up a copy of Exile Radio – AM/FM on Plug Research and the freeBONUS tracks on Dirty Science.

My man Niles is always on the grind, and one of his many projects that I’m honored to write a post on is Notes For Haiti. There are horrific events and disasters that hit home everyday, and when it passes for some, we must remember there are others still struggling through recovery and need our help. Notes For Haiti is a full length compilation with an all star cast. They not only want you to help the people of Haiti, but want you to nod your head to the beat. Please donate anything that you can and download Notes For Haiti on BandCamp. For more information on Oxfam America click here. BIG thanks Niles for all that you do brotha.

I gotta apologize for the delay on getting the word out on this month’s Boombox. It’s going to bean absolute must see, event! First off, let me give BIG thanks to Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazz for making Boombox a staple in L.A. Second, the folks at Boombox know how to bring in the heavy hitters. The line-up is sick… Exile, Oddisee, Samiyam, & J. Bizness. You think you’ve got better plans, yeah right. Trust me, you’ll want to go to this one. So, unless you’re going to Timeless, Boombox is going to be the spot. See you all there.

Boy Meets World is what you call an instant classic, without a doubt. Fashawn put out One Shot One Kill and I couldn’t stop rocking that. It was in heavy rotation on my iPod. Boy Meets World was going to drop a few months later, but I didn’t have to wait that long. Fashawn and The Alchemist put out The Antidote which is also dope. Boy Meets World was produced by the one and only Exile. From Dirty Science to Below the Heavens you can’t stop him. Even if you haven’t heard of Fashawn (…yet), you can’t pass up another Exile banger. Boy Meets World is a must have, so GO BUY IT! BIG thanks Fashawn & Exile for making dope music.

When the Turntable Lab has another in-store, GO! It was dope. Exile got the crowd movin, then Fashawn breaks out the mic. They give everyone a greeting and bust into the tracks from the upcoming album Boy Meets World. To keep the party going Exile kicks out some crazy beats on the MPC in between tracks. They set that place ablaze. There were are handful of guest apperences by Aloe Blacc, Evidence, and Planet Asia. But the kicker was the folks in the crowd like The Alchemist, El Prez, Blu, and Iriscience. I started leaving and noticed this other cat walking to Turntable Lab and it’s Houseshoes. The place was filled with Hip Hop that night, so next time show up. Getta copy of Boy Meets World when it breaks.
