I’m a long time fan of Black Spade, so it was a really cool to get a chance to chat with him about past projects, stuff he’s working on now, and the future of Black Spade. He put out the mixtape Build and Destroy, and most recently a beat tape called The Day We Landed. I can’t stop playing either one. I met up with Black Spade at I Ced’s place when they were taking a break from working on some Hawthorne Headhunts’ tracks. I got a little insight about who Black Spade is and what his future plans are. I did learn one important lesson about doing interviews- Don’t stop recording until you leave, because we talked about everything. Oh yes, it’s that time again. October 2nd is going to be off the hook. The Boombox crew has come up with some heat for this line up. Ced No, Coultrain and Black Spade making up the incredible group the Hawthorne Headhunters.  If you don’t know them yet, this is your chance to hear their great sound.  Also keep an eye out for the Hawthorne Headhunters LP and their individual projects. Next on the bill my man Blu and his band No York. Blu is everywhere right now including a couple of tracks on The Roots new album. Blu is also getting ready to drop an LP, so keep your ears open. Show up at Boombox and catch a sneak peek to both groups and their new joints. Gotta love the first Saturday of every month, so get your dancing shoes, all of your friends, and head out to the Boombox. BIG thanks to the Boombox crew Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazz for putting on dope events.

B+C did a collabo project with LA Stereo to bring you a 1 on 1 interview with House Shoes and J1 aka THE DEER.  Part 1: The Mayor of Detroit Hip Hop, an L.A. staple, producer, DJ, pop to lil House Shoes, and all around good dude… House Shoes.  He has worked with everyone from Detroit to LA, and gone around the world several times. Recently House Shoes hooked up with All City Records (from Dublin) for their 4th installment to their L.A. THIS IS THE EVENT TO BE AT!!!! For reals. Mark September 5th on your calendars now. The main event is going to be kicked off at Fatbeats to rock the compilation Starship 27. There will be featured DJ sets by J1 aka The DEER & Houseshoes. Live beat set by Dibia$e & Snowman Jack (Devonwho hope you can make it), and another DJ set by Teeko & Max Kane. They are giving out free Starship 27 copies to the first 50 people! And of course free beer and lots of Fatbeats merchandise to check out. It’s going to be a packed house, but the party don’t stop there.

What a Sunday! The HVW8′s are starting up their summer jam sessions and this past Sunday kicked it off with Mark de Clive-Lowe. Mark de Clive-Lowe and special guest Nia Andrews, Laurnea, and on drums Chris Bailey. I wasn’t familiar with Mark’s work before, but I’m a big fan now. Lots of folks came out, and the ones walking by stoppped to dance. Check out the photos Max took, and read the updated post on Mark’s blog. BIG thanks to Ty, Max, and the whole hvw8′s crew for a dope show…and BBQ. Hope to see you all at the next one.
There is always something to do out here. So Ruff So Tuff is happening at Carbon in Culver City on Saturdays. They are bustin out Hip Hop, Funk, and Soul…..all on Vinyl people.
