If you have stopped in Poohba Records, it’s possible you may have seen Kutmah digging for records. If you have ever been to Low End Theory downtown, then at one point or another you have heard Kutmah spin. If you have ever been to a random party and chatted with Kutmah, then you understand why so many people are up in arms to keeping Kutmah here. If you haven’t heard, he is being detained and possibly deported back to the UK. Our (U.S.) system has failed Kutmah and his family. In support Beats+Crates urges you to sign the petition, go to a FREE Kutmah event, and/or do what you can to help a fellow music lover/contributor in his time of need. Click here or the image above to visit FREEKUTMAH.com, and please take the time to read the background on the whole story. Thank you.
B+C did a collabo project with LA Stereo to bring you a 1 on 1 interview with House Shoes and J1 aka THE DEER. Part 1: The Mayor of Detroit Hip Hop, an L.A. staple, producer, DJ, pop to lil House Shoes, and all around good dude… House Shoes. He has worked with everyone from Detroit to LA, and gone around the world several times. Recently House Shoes hooked up with All City Records (from Dublin) for their 4th installment to their L.A. Series that’s out in stores now (BIG shout to Jordan Rockswell). Check out House Shoes‘ recent appearance on SOUNDWAVES (KPFK 90.7FM), and The Makings… on Do-Over records. BIG thanks House Shoes, J1, LA Stereo, and the HVW8. Keep your eyes open for Part 2: J1 aka THE DEER

Once again gearing up for Boombox, and the line up is crazy. Boombox is having their Producer Showcase (vol. 6) with some heavy hits that are making BIG waves. We got Proh Mic from the Hawthorne Headhunters, TOKiMONSTA from Brainfeeder, Devonwho rep’n Klipmode, & Snowman (Jack) who’s out right dope in my book. My man Inka One gets top notch folks at Boombox, so this is one not to be missed. And always on deck at Boombox resident DJs Inka One, Ben Diggin, One Man Jazz. See you there. IMPORTANT: RSVP at Going LA

THIS IS THE EVENT TO BE AT!!!! For reals. Mark September 5th on your calendars now. The main event is going to be kicked off at Fatbeats to rock the compilation Starship 27. There will be featured DJ sets by J1 aka The DEER & Houseshoes. Live beat set by Dibia$e & Snowman Jack (Devonwho hope you can make it), and another DJ set by Teeko & Max Kane. J1 is puttin in work! I mean this brotha’s crankin it out like crazy. James Brown (R.I.P.) ain’t got nothing on this cat. Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about; J1 DJ’s at a few spots around LA, is in 2 bands, took time to crank out a podcast for Beats+Crates, few days later plays at the Natural History Museum with Dam Funk, and cranked out YouTube. And that’s just the stuff I know about. I feel like I ran a 5K in a minute givin you the run down. The cool thing is, this is quality stuff J1 is crankin out. YouTube has got a jazzy, hip hop, with a twist of funk to it. I dig it as much as the Attack of the Deer. Check fo yo-self. Download YouTube here and check J1 on MySpace. BIG thanks to the fam J1 & HVW8.

Beats+Crates has been blessed with this exclusive podcast by J1. I met him at the JAY $TAY PAID release party in L.A. and we threw out some ideas. J1 did one better and cranked out this mix of what he’s rockin in only a few days! BIG thanks to J1 for the podcast, and the HVW8 for gettin me hooked on Attack of the Deer.
