Now this is what I’m talking about. There are a few artists and albums that are on my phone and never get deleted… Black Spadeis one of those artists. A while back I ran into him at the LA vs. War art exhibit and we got to talking about projects. After dropping some Hawthorne Headhunters stuff, Build and Destroy, and leaked out some tracks I was ready for the next Black Spade album. Spadewas like listen to Build and Destroy a little more. At that time I did not know that The Sweetest Revenge was in the works. Later Black Spade let me know when the The Sweetest Revenge was dropping, and I’ve been rocking it since. With every Black Spade project he steps it up, and if that track Billy Bad Ass doesn’t get you hooked, then I don’t know what will. The Sweetest Revenge won’t disappoint. Go get Black Spade – The Sweetest Revenge on F5 Records. BIG thanks to Black Spade for consistently making good music.
Black Spade - The Sweetest Revenge
I’m a long time fan of Black Spade, so it was a really cool to get a chance to chat with him about past projects, stuff he’s working on now, and the future of Black Spade. He put out the mixtape Build and Destroy, and most recently a beat tape called The Day We Landed. I can’t stop playing either one. I met up with Black Spade at I Ced’s place when they were taking a break from working on some Hawthorne Headhunts’ tracks. I got a little insight about who Black Spade is and what his future plans are. I did learn one important lesson about doing interviews- Don’t stop recording until you leave, because we talked about everything. I know I’ll be doing another interview with him when he drops back into town. Check out Black Spade – The Day We Landed. BIG thanks Black Spade for taking the time, and making the music. Keep it going. BIG shout out to I Ced for the sound effects (ha ha) and the place.
Oh yes, it’s that time again. October 2nd is going to be off the hook. The Boombox crew has come up with some heat for this line up. Ced No, Coultrain and Black Spade making up the incredible group the Hawthorne Headhunters. If you don’t know them yet, this is your chance to hear their great sound. Also keep an eye out for the Hawthorne Headhunters LP and their individual projects. Next on the bill my man Blu and his band No York. Blu is everywhere right now including a couple of tracks on The Roots new album. Blu is also getting ready to drop an LP, so keep your ears open. Show up at Boombox and catch a sneak peek to both groups and their new joints. Gotta love the first Saturday of every month, so get your dancing shoes, all of your friends, and head out to the Boombox. BIG thanks to the Boombox crew Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazzfor putting on dope events.

If you have stopped in Poohba Records, it’s possible you may have seen Kutmah digging for records. If you have ever been to Low End Theory downtown, then at one point or another you have heard Kutmah spin. If you have ever been to a random party and chatted with Kutmah, then you understand why so many people are up in arms to keeping Kutmah here. If you haven’t heard, he is being detained and possibly deported back to the UK. Our (U.S.) system has failed Kutmah and his family. In support Beats+Crates urges you to sign the petition, go to a FREE Kutmah event, and/or do what you can to help a fellow music lover/contributor in his time of need. Click here or the image above to visit FREEKUTMAH.com, and please take the time to read the background on the whole story. Thank you.
Once again gearing up for Boombox, and the line up is crazy. Boombox is having their Producer Showcase (vol. 6) with some heavy hits that are making BIG waves. We got Proh Mic from the Hawthorne Headhunters, TOKiMONSTA from Brainfeeder, Devonwho rep’n Klipmode, & Snowman (Jack) who’s out right dope in my book. My man Inka One gets top notch folks at Boombox, so this is one not to be missed. And always on deck at Boombox resident DJs Inka One, Ben Diggin, One Man Jazz. See you there.
