The CounterParts – What We Do

download, track, video / Comments Off

I’m really feeling this track. The CounterParts are letting you know What We Do and they kill this track. Most fans just see the finished product, and/or get a glimpse of the grind. The CounterParts talk about not buying new kicks to skipping out on hanging out to do what they do. The bigger scheme of things is they love what they do, and it shows. Click the cover art for a free download and check out more of The CounterParts on Beatrock Music. BIG thanks to Fatgums for the heads up.

DJ Muggs X Bambu – Los Angeles, Philippines

If you’re looking for Malcolm X, Lapu-Lapu, an emcee with political insight, and a rebel leader that will go to bat for you… Bambu is that guy. I first heard of Bambu when I downloaded Dub MD & Illmind’s Blaps,Rhymes & Life Vol. 2, and the one track I couldn’t shake was Bambu’s Quit. I don’t know how many times I played that track before I found out there was a video for it. What makes me respect this cat is Bambu shows his pride for the Philippines and LA in almost ever track. He’s showing love worldwide. This project Bambu has linked up with Soul Assassins’ DJ Muggs to bring you Los Angles, Philippines. Bambu tells his story, and gives some social commentary of what’s going on in the world today.  DJ Muggs brings that hard-hitting Soul Assassins vibe with the beats. This is one NOT TO BE SLEPT ON! Download DJ Muggs X Bambu – Los Angles, Philippines mixtape here. BIG thanks to Fatgums at Beatrock for shooting this over. BIG shout to 24K MilkCrate & Rocky Rivera on that Smoke Smarter video.

LMNO & Kev Brown – Selective Hearing Part 2

album, download / Comments Off

Man, let me start off by saying BUY Selective Hearing Part 2J1 introduced me to Kev Brown at a benefit party for Kutmah at the Verdugo Bar.  I bought Kev Brown’s Random Joints a while back, and was a big fan (a House Shoes recommendation).  Kev was in town to do a tour with his partner in crime LMNO, from the super group The Visionaries, to promote the new album Selective Hearing Part 2.  When I got a copy of this I played it all day.  I got a chance to play some tracks on Soundwaves and played The Ultimate.  LMNO and Kev Brown kill it on the mic.  And the album uses all James Brown samples, it’s off the hook.   This is already in heavy rotation on the ipod.  Buy Lmno & Kev Brown – Selective Hearing Part 2 at Up Above Records.  BIG thanks Kev and Trevor for opening my ears on this one.

Inland Empire is Bringin it!

For those who missed out on the show at SPACE 15TWENTY, it was dope. It made you say UHH, Dope, Fresh, Ill, and everyone was rockin NameBrand! There were lots of performers, but let me just tell you about the ones that I ran home to downloaded EPs and mixtapes from. My man Jay showed up and let me know they were going on next. Now I know Jay from way back when, and he was a dope emcee back then. But when his crew (The UHH!) got up to bat they knocked it out the park. The crowd easily doubled if not tripled in size, and that’s when I knew I had to do a write up on this. Quick shout out to everyone that performed – LVN Proof, Clinton Wayne, Shaleah Nikole, Prints Haze, & Dubie.

The UHH...!The UHH…!

Uhh, classic hip hop man, can’t stop this! The Uhh kicked it off with “Feel Good” to warm up the crowd, which didn’t take long. Then they got people moving by splitting up the crowd in half and played “This Side, That Side.” The last time I had fun checkin out hip hop was at a Pharcyde show back in the days. The lyrics were on point and the production on the beats was hot. Oh man, The Uhh were making the ladies scream…literally. They kept the interaction with the crowd, and had the ladies scream to find out who was the hottest in the place (it was a tie). The winners got up on stage and got to participate in the next part of the show. One girl held a marker board, and the other wrote words on the board while the Uhh had to put them into their freestyle. It was the dopest freestylin I’ve seen in a long time. That girl kept coming up with some random words! The Uhh wrapped it up with a few more songs, but left people pumped. The Uhh is working hard in the lab on their LP and some shows. So keep you’re eyes peeled. For more info check The Uhh on MySpace.

The Mighty Dope_Fresh_IllThe Mighty

“Dope, Fresh, Ill” a description of The Mighty, and the song they opened up with. I was feelin it and they just brought more of the good vibes. The Mighty had the energy and the stage presence that had the crowd doing more than just nodding their heads. Out right dancing, man! The Mighty broke out with beatboxin, guest appearances, and kept the crowd movin. One track they did brought back T.I.E. from The Uhh on stage, and they set that one ablaze. Not only that, they had the crowd textin “breakout The Mighty” to 41027. Go on, try it. The Mighty has an album download on their MySpace site that is “Dope, Fresh, Ill” fo-sho. Check that out and see what else they are up to. Click here to download the album.

NameBrand - Fligh Skool BullyNameBrand

Who better to round off the night than a cat named NameBrand that came with a band. Yes, a Band! Let me set it up for you. (Cough, cough, clearing the throat) Ok, these cats were setting up their instruments behind the host of the show and were quickly doin a mic check, and I’m like “what?!” I wasn’t sure what was going on because I saw this cat on a drum set, 2 guitarists, and a bass player look like they were going to do a lounge act. The host introduces NameBrand and this cat dressed like the Rat Pack comes out with the swagger of Frank, Dean, and Sammy rolled into one. He starts off acappella,…and the band comes in blazin. Before you know it, the heads go from noddin to everybody jumpin around. It was hot!! Think of The Roots backing up Jay-Z, or if you put Fatlip with Anthrax Band. It was cool. As much energy NameBrand was givin off on stage, he was also crankin it out off stage. NameBrand just posted “Fligh Skool Bully” for download on his MySpace page and has “Know the Name” mixtape for download too. Hardest working man in show biz, James Brown ain’t got nothing on this cat. Download “Know the Name” here and check out NameBrand on MySpace.
