Sammus – M’Other Brain

Lately this is the only album that I can listen to straight through. Sammus is a super smart gamer girl that produces and raps. Is this a nerd’s dream that’s comes true or what?!? Either way I’m glad that Sammus is out there making good music. The thing that got me hooked wasn’t just listening to M’Other Brain, but Sammus’ Beatz. A whole beat tape that makes you feel like you’re in a video. I started having flashbacks to playing Super Mario Bros. M’Other Brain is very different from Beatz and rounds out this super nerd with mad rap skills. Check out Sammus and see what I’m talking about. Buy Sammus - M’Other Brain on Band Camp. BIG thanks to Sammus for bringing something good to the rap/producer table.

J-Live – As I Start (Over)

Nothing like a high energy video from J-Live to get your day going. Not much else to say, but play it again. After you get done watching the video, get down with the album, S.P.T.A. BIG thanks to J-Live for the heads up. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Homeboy Sandman – Not Really

This dude, Homeboy Sandman is ill with the lyrics, and I’m really feeling this video. I dig the one shot take videos and that it’s out in the neighborhood. It all goes along with the concept of the song  Not Really. “People ask me if  my life changed…Not really.” Homeboy Sandman’s letting folks know no matter what level he’s on, he’s still the same Sandman. Keep it down to earth Homeboy Sandman.  Check out Homeboy Sandman – First Of A Living Breed on Stones Throw. Buy it and get the album booklet and check out the lyrics. Good read.

John Robinson – Gifted

A friend of mine told me, “if a rapper has to curse every other word…they’re not a rapper.” John (JR) Robinson is a rapper for sure! The Gifted is one of those albums I can play with my mother in the car and she won’t give me that look like what are we listening to. Gifted has a laid back vibe that will still have your head nodding. John Robinson’s flow it clear, and said with care. I’m digging Gifted because of its comforting classic sound, but keeping it in the now. Download John Robinson – Gifted on Band Camp. Thank you Mr. John Robinson for tweeting about this one.

Koncept & Tranzformer – Day Dreaming

Going through my emails as usual, I was looking for a video to write about and ran across Koncept and Tranzformer Day Dreaming. I started thinking about when I would day dream in class. I checked out the video and started nodding my head to the track. Below the video was a link for a free EP, so I downloaded it. I played the whole thing. If More Than Meets The Eye is an EP, I can’t wait to hear Koncept and Tranzformer’s LP. This is a must to check out. Download Koncept & Tranzformer – More Than Meets The Eye at DJ Booth.Net. Also check out Koncept on twitter. BIG Thanks Brown Bag All Stars for the heads up.

Jean Grae – Cookies Or Comas

I’m almost speechless when it comes to Cookies or Comas. Jean Grae’s Cookies or Comas was needed more than fresh air in LA smog. I Rock On is that joint you need to crank the volume up to hear the heavy bass hit. I’ve got the headphones on, and think I might go deaf by the time I finish writing this. Cookies or Comas  also has Talib Kweli, Styles P, Royce Da 5’9” and Pharoahe Monch spitting on tracks. If you have never heard of Jean Grae (which shouldn’t be the case), Cookies or Comas is the prefect introduction to this lyrically sharp, witty emcee. Download Jean Grae – Cookies and Comas on DJ Booth.net. Also check out Jean Grae’s blog and on twitter. BIG thanks to DJ Booth.Net for hosting the mixtape.

Top $ Raz – The Man

It’s time to give this cat Top $ Raz his overdue and well deserved credit. Jessica (from I Heart Dilla) told me about Top $ Raz a long time ago. I was slow to catch on, but my ears are wide open now. Yes Jessica when I’m in NYC you can say, “I told you so!”. In The Man, Top $ Raz brings out that 50’s swagger with the black suit, black sunglasses, and all the ladies cutting a rug. Noisemaker Media and Top $ Raz picked a banging track to collaborate on a video.  I’m about to watch The Man again. Check out Top $ Raz –  The New Flesh on Band Camp. BIG thanks to Noisemaker Media for making a dope video and Jessica for introducing me to Top $ Raz’s music.

Cans & 7even Sun – French Connection

Cans and 7even Sun take Hip Hop from NY to France in 30 minutes and back again. Cans, from NY, linked up with French producer, 7even Sun to bring you some banging tracks. 420 Blowin will get you high just listening to it. The French Connection has that classic Hip Hop sound that makes it timeless.  I was really feeling the French Connection from the get go, and still have it in rotation. Check out Cans & 7even Sun on MySpace. Download Cans & 7even Sun – French connection on Band Camp. BIG thanks 7even Sun for the heads up. Keep making that music.
