A friend of mine told me, “if a rapper has to curse every other word…they’re not a rapper.” John (JR) Robinson is a rapper for sure! The Gifted is one of those albums I can play with my mother in the car and she won’t give me that look like what are we listening to. Gifted has a laid back vibe that will still have your head nodding. John Robinson’s flow it clear, and said with care. I’m digging Gifted because of its comforting classic sound, but keeping it in the now. Download John Robinson – Gifted on Band Camp. Thank you Mr. John Robinson for tweeting about this one.

Going through my emails as usual, I was looking for a video to write about and ran across Koncept and Tranzformer Day Dreaming. I started thinking about when I would day dream in class. I checked out the video and started nodding my head to the track. Below the video was a link for a free EP, so I downloaded it. I played the whole thing. If More Than Meets The Eye is an EP, I can’t wait to hear Koncept and Tranzformer’s LP. This is a must to check out.Download Koncept & Tranzformer – More Than Meets The Eye at DJ Booth.Net. Also check out Koncept on twitter. BIG Thanks Brown Bag All Stars for the heads up.

I’m almost speechless when it comes to Cookies or Comas. Jean Grae’sCookies or Comas was needed more than fresh air in LA smog. I Rock On is that joint you need to crank the volume up to hear the heavy bass hit. I’ve got the headphones on, and think I might go deaf by the time I finish writing this. Cookies or Comas also has Talib Kweli, Styles P, Royce Da 5’9” and Pharoahe Monch spitting on tracks. If you have never heard of Jean Grae (which shouldn’t be the case), Cookies or Comas is the prefect introduction to this lyrically sharp, witty emcee. Download Jean Grae – Cookies and Comas on DJ Booth.net. Also check out Jean Grae’sblog and on twitter. BIG thanks to DJ Booth.Net for hosting the mixtape.

It’s time to give this cat Top $ Raz his overdue and well deserved credit. Jessica (from I Heart Dilla) told me about Top $ Raz a long time ago. I was slow to catch on, but my ears are wide open now. Yes Jessica when I’m in NYC you can say, “I told you so!”. In The Man, Top $ Raz brings out that 50’s swagger with the black suit, black sunglasses, and all the ladies cutting a rug. Noisemaker Media and Top $ Raz picked a banging track to collaborate on a video.  I’m about to watch The Man again. Check out Top $ Raz –  The New Flesh on Band Camp. BIG thanks to Noisemaker Media for making a dope video and Jessica for introducing me to Top $ Raz’s music.

Cans and 7even Sun take Hip Hop from NY to France in 30 minutes and back again. Cans, from NY, linked up with French producer, 7even Sun to bring you some banging tracks. 420 Blowin will get you high just listening to it. Time flies when you’re having fun, and the Boombox crew must be having a helluva time! It feels like just a few months ago we were celebrating their 3rd year. This time around to help celebrate Boombox’s 4th anniversary the guest host for the evening is Shawn Jackson. If you don’t know about Mr. Shawn Jackson check out his recent mixtape Hollywood Shuffle Side B and his LP Brand New Old Me. And guest selector Pete Rock. Do I need to say more about him? I’m sure you all know Pete Rock for one thing or another. He’ll be pulling tunes from his large library of music. It’s going to be a dope night. Always in the place to be Boombox’s resident DJs Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazz. Picking great music from hip hop to latin grooves you’ll have a great time. Come on out and help celebrate another great year with the Boombox’s crew. BIG thanks to the Boombox crew Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazzfor doing it BIG another year.

This is a very special post. Not just because it’s B+C’s 300th, but because I have written about K. Sparks and Ritchcraft in other posts. Don’t sleep on K. Sparks and Ritchcraft. These are a couple of very talented cats that are doing big things. It’s always a good feeling to know that great artists keep elevating their game.
K. Sparks is a dope emcee that has an incredible style. With Super Senior you can get the full impact of who K. Sparks is, or so I thought. I caught a couple of other tracks that he’s dropped, and each one has this kick to it like eating spicy noodles or something.  I’ve also noticed that K. Sparks is down to collaborate with new producers to come up with dope projects. When Ritchcraft shot me an email about The Art of Ritchmixing: A K. Sparks Adventure I was like, “WHAT? That’s dope!” Ritchcraft is linking up with some good folks and cranking out the projects. I think he has a sound that is complete and can stand alone, and with an emcee adds to the fire. These two make a great match, so I was more than excited to cop this project. The K. SparksIntro had me cracking up. Stepping into Good Morning featuring Frank Ramz you know you’re going to get a solid EP. I really hope K. Sparks and Ritchcraft crank out another project. Download The Art of Ritchmixing: A K. Sparks Adventure on Band Camp. Also check out Intalek & Ritchcraft – Lives and Vibes and K. Sparks – Super Senior. Both are dope projects. BIG thanks Ritchcraft for the heads up. Keep doing what you do.

Saturday I was getting back into my routine which includes checking Beatminerz Radio with Jessica (i Heart Dilla) & DJ Evil Dee. Jessica dropped a dope track from 80’s Babies, and right away I started looking them up. I found this video to their track I Wanna Talk To You. I was really digging how it was shot, the overlay of other video footage & stills, and it’s overall vibe. The track itself is dope and the album, “Sonic Music”, is worth the listen. Check it out 80’s Babies on BandCamp. BIG thanks Jessica for playing good music.

Haz Solo is cranking out the beats once again.  This time he’s teamed up with New York based emcee SigNif. Haz gave me a quick run down on how this project came about. He linked up with SigNif, a fellow Milwaukee native, to produce a track (AfterNoon Jazz) on her album The Transition.  That project was coming to a close and Haz was digging it. He wanted to make more, so he requested the acapella version of the title track, and made 4 different versions.  Haz then got 4 other tracks which turned into The Transition Remixes.  I’m a Haz Solo fan anyways, but I think SigNif is coming for you emcees.  Download Signif x Haz Solo – The Transition Remixes on BandCamp. Also check out the original album, SigNif – The Transition. BIG thanks Haz for the heads up.
