I don’t know why it took me so long to write about my man Oddisee’s latest album, People Hear What They See. Oh yeah too busy listening to it. People- I want to tell you the music is out there. I know folks say Hip Hop sucks these days, and yeah I have caught myself saying it too. BUT the good stuff is out there, like this album. Yes, I went online to iTunes and bought it. No questions. Oddisee is high on my list for cats making good music and influencing a change in the genre for the better. People Hear What They See has a little bit of it all. Ready To Rock and Do It All has that get into “GO MODE” vibe. Just listening to it makes me feel accomplished. Maybe because I picture folks cruising around town or in deep thought. Another Grind… who shouts out Kenny Rogers?! Don’t sit on your hands, get up and get it. Buy Oddisee – People Hear What They See on iTunes and vinyl at Fat Beats. BIG shout to Mello Music Group for keeping me in the know. And to my man Trek Lifefor introducing me to another creative person.
A little something to get you in the Christmas mood if you aren’t already. I got my Christmas list ready and I’m handing out copies. A Low Budget Christmas is a nice surprise in my email- Christmas started early. A low Budget Christmas is a nice twist on holiday tracks you may or may not know. Now I don’t have to listen to the usual Christmas tracks over and over again. Buy A Low Budget Christmas at Band Camp. BIG thanks Low Budget Crew, and happy holidays to you cats.
I’m going to give you my opinion on this dude Oddisee. I think we are witnessing the makings of a legend. I really can’t think of a project that he’s a part of that folks don’t love. Above all Oddisee is a down to earth cat. Odd Renditions Vol. 001 is another flavor of Oddisee, but still his sound. Odd Renditions is just a teaser to his upcoming album People Hear What They See out June 5. BIG thanks Oddisee for making great music. Keep doing what you’re doing.
I had to post this up. When people reach out to you from around the world because they love your music, that is love. Oddisee has been cranking out the tunes as a producer and an emcee, so it’s great to see that cat get rep’d like that in Belgium. The Blooming has a very cinematic feel, and the storytelling aspect is great. I love how they show the watch several times to go with the ticking in the track and to represent time passing. Great video.
“Belgium’s ZBS Studio reached out to Mello Muisc Group about permission to do a video for Oddisee’s “The Blooming”. MMG of course was honored to have them interpret the song and apply their vision to the track. The resulting marriage of visual storytelling & instrumental perfection is a narrative work that tells the story of time’s passage in the life of a boy. The video was directed, shot, & edited by Tomasz Cibulla and Wojciech Drożdż of ZBS Studio in Belgium.”
Highlights include: Oddisee’s innate sense of space on the soulful Different Now, featuring Toine. The Detroit triumvirate of Finale, Invincible & Black Milk on Don’t Sleep. KC native son Stik Figa‘s collaboration with Oddisee, co-produced by Dunc entitled, From the Top,which is part of Oddisee’s effort to promote regional Hip-Hop flavors.
Beats+Crates got the jump on your other favorite blogs with this one.
My man Trek Life is not playing. This is the Year of the Trek, and with his latest album, Everything Changed Nothing, there is no questions about that. I heard So Supreme from ESPN, and a few other tracks here and there. The day the album hit stores Trek’s in-store at Fat Beats, I bought the album right then and there. On Everything Changed Nothing Trek teamed up with super producer Oddisee to bring you this heavy hitting, west coast inspired album. I’ve had it in heavy rotation since. To me, Everything Changed Nothing is an uplifting, inspiring, and a motivating album. Due West, Wow, & So LA will make you get up and move. Trust me, you’ll have it in heavy rotation soon enough. Buy Trek Life – Everything Changed Nothing at Fat Beats or your local record store. BIG thanks Trek Life & Oddisee for making a great album, and BIG shout to DJ Buddy and J. Bizness.

kyLA introduced me to TiRon one summer hanging out at the Do Over. Ever since then I’ve been keeping a close eye on this talented cat. Last year he dropped Ketchup and this year it’s MSTRD. Just like a food fight, but without the mess and a whole lot of fun. TiRon’sMSTRD quickly became a part of my heavy rotation playlist. And don’t sleep on the video to Ms. Right featuring Ayomari.Download TiRon – MSTRD here. Also check out TiRon’s other releases Ketchup and Handshakes & Ponds. BIG thanks TiRon for making the music.

Oddisee rounds out his seasonal collection with the 4th and final installment Odd Spring. Oddisee is one of my favorite producers/emcees, and you know you’re going to get quality music from him every time. Odd Spring is another collection of Oddisee tracks that sets the mood for the season. The tone is set right away with The Blooming and builds up with Birds & Bees (featuring the Diamond District). Half way through you might as well be outside with the volume cranked up. Download Oddisee – Odd Spring on BandCamp. Also pick up Oddisee’s Traveling Man. BIG thanks Oddisee for making the dope music.

I gotta apologize for the delay on getting the word out on this month’s Boombox. It’s going to bean absolute must see, event! First off, let me give BIG thanks to Inka One, Ben Diggin, and One Man Jazz for making Boombox a staple in L.A. Second, the folks at Boombox know how to bring in the heavy hitters. The line-up is sick… Exile, Oddisee, Samiyam, & J. Bizness. You think you’ve got better plans, yeah right. Trust me, you’ll want to go to this one. So, unless you’re going to Timeless, Boombox is going to be the spot. See you all there.
