I don’t know, maybe I’m a sucka for sampling, but the Elevated Ruffians know how to make it a hit. Or it could be because they’re rep’n the I.E. to the fullest. Or just maybe it’s the combination of word play and content. Either way…DOWNLOAD IT! I got an email from the Elevated Ruffians with all kinds of links and musical goodness. The Magnificent Soul EP was in there too. I was listening and when I heard Noa James on Nothin’ New, I knew I had to post this up. The track was popping, but got a couple levels higher when the Noa dropped some lines. Download Elevated Ruffians – The Magnificent Soul EP on Bandcamp. Check out The Magnificent Soul LP on ReverbNation. Keep your eyes open for other projects from their crew, elevatedSOUL and MAGNIFICENT RUFFIANS.BIG thanks Elevated Ruffians for shooting this over. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Detroit is one city that is cranking out artists left and right. I got an email from Jon the other day with eLZHi’s latest release The Leftovers Unmixedtape, and I checked it out right away. eLZHi’s The Leftovers is a 14 track unmixedtape of old promos and projects, but together is a banger. The lyrics are hands down dope, and all of the producers are home run hitters. I think I even played that track “The Crowd” (produced by Leef) a few times in a row before I got to the next track. Call it what you want, The Leftovers Unmixedtape is one you’ll crank up the volume to. Download eLZHi – The Leftovers Unmixedtape at eLZhi.com. Keep and eye out for other projects eLZhi drops on MySpace. BIG thanks to Jon for the heads up.

I first got wind of this cat Rick Hughes from the track In My City off Cali Co-op, and a few folks I’ve talked with dropped his name in conversations. But what made me really pay attention was an email I got from Camille about her post on Arize Magazine’s site. I chatted with her on twitter about it, and Camille told me she was all about getting good music heard. I was down for that, and the tracks she sent were good. Rick Hughes has worked with a gang of people from Kid Boogie to Oh On, so I’d keep a close eye on this cat. Rick, keep making moves…and rep’n the I.E. Download all 5 tracks here. BIG thanks Camille for keeping my ears open.

Digging around on Okayplayer I found a post about Mos Def’s new LP coming out. I did a search and got a little more… a lot more. Mos has got a West Coast connect with Madlib and Oh No producing some tracks. Not just that, but has Chad Hugo, Mr. Port, and the late great J Dilla. If I get a sneak peek I’ll post it. BIG thanks to Okayplayer for the post.

History (prod. J Dilla)
