Please take note, the bar has been set high…because of this cat Magestik Legend. I can’t recall how it went down, but Kyla opened up my ears to Magestik Legend. I downloaded Free the night before, and my first thought was I’m too swapped to through something else on the ipod. I did it anyways and good thing too. On my way home I played Free, and my pace got faster. Had to get home and post this. Each track hit hard if not harder then previous one. Besides Magestik Legend producing tracks, I also saw Snowman Jack on there. The track In N Out that he produced had to be a banger, and it is.

I checked out Lawz Spoken’s Standing In The Rain, and right of the bat was feeling the Intro (Wake Up Everybody). I’ve been grooving on it for a while and thought it needed to get out to the masses. I first got wind of this cat Rick Hughes from the track In My City off Cali Co-op, and a few folks I’ve talked with dropped his name in conversations. But what made me really pay attention was an email I got from Camille about her post on Arize Magazine’s site. I chatted with her on twitter about it, and Camille told me she was all about getting good music heard. I was down for that, and the tracks she sent were good. I don’t know half of the stuff they are talking about on Rookie Season, but it’s dope. FS Green produced all of the tracks and/or remixed them. Rookie Season really shows the range of talent he has as a producer. I first got wind of FS Green when he started making those Mixing Monthly mixes with Full Crate. They would squeeze a beat or 2 in the mixes. And this is true, when I got to one of those tracks I had to check who it was. For reals. When Rookie Season came out I was like I gotta check that. I’ve been playing this album for a while and still don’t understand half the stuff on it. But I still dig rocking it! I have no idea where Thelonious comes up with these titles, but I’m sure he’s got a good reason for it. I can’t say much about the first track, Big Wheels, except bangin. I don’t know how many times I played it before I got to the rest of the tracks. Big Wheels & Gold Teeth shows Thelonious’ growth and exploration of sounds. In some beats, he drops in movie samples that compliment the tracks giving them a big cinematic feel. Over all Big Wheels & Gold Teeth is another well done beat tape you gotta check out. The end of the album sums it up…”I should have called this shit great.” I got an email right before my vacation from this cat Dylan Thomas. I did a quick look and seen he rocks some stuff with the fam bam Haz Solo. You know that cat cranks out the tunes like crazy. I checked around to see what was crack’n, and Dylan Thomas’ name came up more than once. This album is on fire, and yeah Haz got in on this too. And It Was Good has a laid back and lounge sound that will keep your head nodding. Shelly is one that I can play over and over. I won’t steer you wrong on this one. Download And It Was Good here. I wanted to know how was all worked on the the production, but it was all him. I mean crazy isn’t?! The cats got flows and cranks out the beats. At first I totally didn’t get it. I was ready to pass it up, but I’ve seen this dude on twitter everyday putting in work. There had to be something to it. When I took the time to listen to it, I was shocked that I had almost passed this by. I was feeling it. I did some more digging and found out HAZ is an emcee! MC: Are you for real?! He had lyrics to match. I downloaded Missing and rocked it in my car…a few times. I got to a friends house and thought to myself “What happened to the music?” because I wasn’t in my car. It was cool. I did a write up on Detroit CYDI and wanted to see what else they had in the works. I got a hold of Illingsworth, and man was I in for a surprise. Illingsworth shot me some tracks he was working on and it was like a 50 track master piece. I asked him what he’s planning on doing with it, and he just replied, “what, these are just some beats I make when I get the creativity going.” I told him “if this is what you crank out while making finished work, I’ve got to hear what you make if you did a beat tape.” I guess I said the right things because in 48 hours he cranked out Twitterverse Traveler. My jaw dropped.  Later that week he did some minor tweaks and this is what you have. Check out Illingsworth’s site, and download Twitterverse Traveler.
