My man Haz Solo wised me up on Rufio and his beat tape entitled The Edgewater. Haz is a cool cat and collaborates with folks from all over, so it didn’t surprise me when he said Rufio is from Sacramento. What did surprise me, is how quick Rufio cranked out a beat tape. Not only instrumental tracks, but tracks also featuring a few emcees. Yes Haz is on it too. In the email Haz explains how Rufio came up with the name The Edgewater, “He was in my neck of the woods (Madison, WI) last week and I challenged him to make a beat tape during his stay and entitle it the name of the Hotel he was staying in.” Sometimes it’s as simple as that folks. Download Rufio – The Edgewater here. BIG thanks to Haz Solo for keeping me in the know.

When URB magazine put TAIS on the Next 1000 list, it’s for a good reason. TAIS dropped Too Complex earlier this week and it’s banging. Here is an emcee folks need to study. Not only for TAIS‘ lyrical skill, but for his staying power. TAIS dropped 2 mixtapes, leaked a couple of tracks in between, and lots of videos of his shows. A combination of all of this and with a positive attitude, it won’t be long before you hear the explosion. Too Complex is filled with banging beats and a dope featured emcee. Left Hemispere is another track I have on heavy rotation. Check out TAIS – Too Complex on BandCamp. Also check TAIS‘ other projects at TAISMusic.com. BIG thanks TAIS.

TAIS breaks it out again with a dope track called Too Complex. Not just giving you (YES IT’S FREE) a mini video & the track, but all kinds of goodies. How many artists do you know that give out discounts on merchandise, a ring tone of the track, and have a contest?! Check out the video, download the goodies (track & video included), and enter the Too Complex contest for more cool stuff. Also check TAIS – The Mixtape. BIG thanks TAIS for the heads up.

The fam Infinite Cycle had this crazy idea and ran with it. He kicked it around with some A 1 cats, J Buziness & DJ Gade Real and they were down from the word go. Now understand Infinite Cycle is in Sacramento, J Buziness & DJ Gade Real in the I.E., so face time ain’t the easiest. They managed the whole project through phone calls, Twitter, emails, and file sharing host. You gotta love technology.
“From something that started out as a discussion about not having enough unity in music to having a mixtape out in about a month shows how much a small idea can be brought into fruition by a little dedication and hard work. After all of the scrambling and deadlines, the Cali Co-op Vol. 1 mixtape was formed and what we have here is only some of California’s finest talent in one package, mixed by DJ Gabe Real.” –Infinite Cycle

I’ve said it before, but I love it when emcee’s take hip hop back to being fun and the Live Manikins know how to do it. Self (from the Live Manikins) sent me this track from Still Life (their album), and I was like “man what else you got going?!” I was noddin the head instantly. I rocked the songs on their MySpace and realized I had to get back to the 9 – 5. Now I’m working my iPod to death on that track. Check out Live Manikins on MySpace, and pick up a copy of their album Still Life. It’s Worth the money. BIG thanks to Self for hookin it up.

TAIS is another rapper that lets you know hip hop is alive and well. This Sacramento rapper is getting a lot of buzz. I first read about him on URB’s Next 1000 section of their website, which lead me to TAIS MySpace page, and then to his site. On TAIS’ site you can check out more press, and download the mixtape. He appears to also be a Black Milk fan from his beat selection on the tape. Enough of the chatting, get to downloading! BIG thanks to URB for having TAIS on the NEXT 1000.
