San Francisco
If you really want to know how the West was won close your textbooks and put on your headphones! Drums & Ammo Vol. 1 is an instrumental album that takes you through a west coast gamut of monster beats. It has tracks from previously produced tracks to brand new head bangers. Quick background: Drums & Ammo is a collective of SWTBRDS producer’s 6Fingers, Al Jieh, Ammbush, and REL. They’ve been producing tracks for up-and-comers and well-established artists. In addition to banging tracks they got my man DaVinci doing some drops on Drums & Ammo Vol. 1. You really have to give it up to these cats, coming in under the radar, their sound is so explosive. Don’t sleep on the Bay Area, they are a force that’s coming with Drums & Ammo. Download Drums & Ammo Vol. 1 on Band Camp and check out the latest info on Twitter. BIG thanks to the good folks at SWTBRDS for tweeting this one. Looking forward to Vol. 2!

Drums & Ammo – Blame Game (Prod. Al Jieh)
Words by: Jacqueline of The Mint Collective
When my friend Eric Boss first introduced me to Dan Aka Trailer Limon and I heard his music, I knew he would be on the shine soon. Trailer has got some of the most diverse sounds packed into one project I have ever heard.
This latest EP, Special Dedication – The B-Sides consists of 5 tracks running the gamut of hip hop, soul, funk, chillwave and even uptempo danceable ish. Makes sense because this dude is a multi-instrumentalist who delves into his creations using a mixture of analog instruments, synths, samplers, electronic drums and anything else he can get a noise out of. From throwback disco and hip hop jams to afro-Slump and future funk, Trailer is a musical chameleon with his mind rooted in funk. He is so sick he gots the funky flu.
His current projects include The Pendletons; a soul/slump outfit with E Da Boss, New Future; a future funk band with fellow funkster Stanely Vanagan, and Secret Service; a psychedelic tribal krunk duo with Oakland artist Sun Ru. Trailer Limon – They Don’t Have to Know
I’m a sucka for videos. I got an email from the great folks at Sweetbreads Creative Collective about DaVinci’s new video What You Finna Do. I think shooting video or stills in black & white is tricky, but done right can come off very raw & artistic. Shooting What You Finna Do in black & white really drives the story-telling lyrics from DaVinci home. Also check out DaVinci’s Hustler’s Theme below. DaVinci’s new album, The Day The Turf Stood Still, will be available March 9, 2010. Check Sweetbreads Creative Collective for more details. BIG thanks Al for the heads up.

One Truth – Man vs. Woman
The first thing that pops into my mind when people mention “spoken word artists” is political (or whatever topic that’s currently socially conscious) rhythmical rants. One night J1 invited me to Transmissions at Grand Star to check out this cat One Truth. Man, was that an experience. One Truth had a three-piece band called MugPush and a style far removed from other poets I’ve seen. It felt more like a hip hop or jazz show. Point is, One Truth changed my whole perspective of spoken word artists. His album Soundtrack To Life: New Beginnings also reflects that- it’s one you’ll bump in your car. Check out One Truth on MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube. Buy One Truth’s Soundtrack To Life: New Beginnings. BIG thanks J1 for the heads up.
If you haven’t seen F.A.M.E. (Max, Malaguti, & Teeko) live this video will give you a glimpse of their set up. I’ve checked them out when they’ve been in L.A., but real talk F.A.M.E. is a must see! All the equipment, the high energy, and great music you can’t walk away without a smile. Check out F.A.M.E.’s recent project TruthPics, and keep your eyes open for many more. Keep it a Fresh Analog Music Experience ! BIG thanks to MIXSTERIOUS, for making a dope video.
F.A.M.E.’s TruthPics has the B+C record for the number of times played back to back…4!!!! Teeko, Max, & Malaguti are three down to earth and cool cats the make up the group F.A.M.E..When I got the email, I put it on right away and I haven’t played anything else today. I’ve seen F.A.M.E. (Fresh Analog Music Experience) live a couple of times when they came to L.A., and it truly is an experience. F.A.M.E. sets up gangs of equipment and plays it ALL. They raised the bar for live performances, so go catch them in your city. “Lightly sweetened with tasteful turntablism and delicate vocal subtleties, this collection pays light to characteristics of truth using a wide range of styles and feels. Resulting in a colorful variety pack of future funk and hip-hop soul.” — Teeko
TruthPics is down right feel good music. Determination is one of those joints that puts you in a good party mood, and everyone’s having a good time. No matter who you play TruthPics for, you can’t go wrong. To make this even sweeter, TruthPics is just a glimpse into the full length album Come With Us (summer 2010). Find F.A.M.E. on YouTube MySpace, Twitter, wherever because these cats are the future. Download F.A.M.E. – TruthPics here. SXSW is winding down today but it’s been a crazy few days. Here at the Flatstock Poster Convention, there’s lot of great artwork to checkout. I want to highlight a couple studios doing some great work. Burlesque of North America operates out of Minneapolis, Minnesota and in addition to some great design work, their crew is made up of a few DJs. Check out their 12″ LP’s DO IT TO IT Volumes I and II featuring Bird Peterson, Dave Nada, Emynd, Wizard of Gaz, Tittsworth, and Mike the 2600 King.
Bobby Dixon of Kollective Fusion is one of the staples of the Austin gig poster scene. His poster design includes work for RJD2, DJ Shadow, The Roots, Method Man, Jurassic 5, and Mos Def to name a few. Continue reading…
