I started checking out Full Crate & FS Green with their monthly podcast. I  first heard of Versis when he did Love produced by fLako. Not that long ago I got an email from this cat Versis with the track Make Me Laugh that he did with Full Crate.  Versis breaks out with smooth lyrics and a raspy voice, I had a Tone Loc flashback for a minute. It was tight. I hit up Versis to ask what else he has in the works, because I was in the middle of writing a post. He told me that I might want to wait a bit for Synergy the EP (produced by Lucid) to drop. Man, good thing I did. It dropped on July 11th and I rocked Synergy for a couple of days. Versis has more projects in the works, but hopefully this will hold you until then. Download Synergy and Make Me Laugh here. Versis has a few other tracks with some top producers, so check for them. Yes I’ve been sleeping on this, but ears are wide open. I got an email from Dub MD Promotions and this track was in it. I replied with a thanks and will get to it. Well when I did, I was like wow that’s hot. Madlib makes some bangers, but this cat Cyrano gives a good balance to the beat. With the addition of Silent Knight this track will end up on your heavy rotation playlist. On April 13th check for Dub MD & Cyrano aka Cy Yung presents “Madicinal Libationz: Flow Springz Eternal. I’ve said it before, but I love it when emcee’s take hip hop back to being fun and the Live Manikins know how to do it. Self (from the Live Manikins) sent me this track from Still Life (their album), and I was like “man what else you got going?!” I was noddin the head instantly. I rocked the songs on their MySpace and realized I had to get back to the 9 – 5.  Now I’m working my iPod to death on that track. Live Mankins – Anywhere

Rep’n DMV (DC, Maryland, & Virgina) Oddisee, X.O. and Y.U. make up the Diamond District. They remind me of early Wu-Tang (not just because of the sample of O.D.B.) and the Goodie Mob. “Who I Be” has the eerie down-tempo sound that give it that Wu flava, but totally a sound of their own. Diamond District – Who I Be (clean)

The combination of Smiffson and his producer Disco Vietnam makes “Relax” a bangin track. One thing, trying to find any info on this cool, calm, lyricist who hates the word swagger is hard to hunt down. I got a few YouTube hits that looks like it was recorded on the fly, but still takes nothing away from his gift to gab. BIG thanks to Passion of the Weiss for posting this up.

Mos Def – Brooklyn (Go Hard)

Sometimes when you find stuff…you find stuff. I was rockin some Guilty Simpson and wanted to see what else was out there that I haven’t heard. I did a search and a huge list popped out. I’m a Big Madlib and Guilty Simpson fan, and when it’s on the same track I gotta post it. I’m not sure where the track came from, but I’ll see what else i can dig up on it. Enjoy.
