Jonti’s Sine & Moon is a FREE album curtesy of Stones Throw records for a limited time. If you missed it …. I don’t know what to say, but it’s a good one.

Jonti’s Sine & Moon is one of the happiest beat albums I’ve heard. I was checking out the artwork and wasn’t sure what I was going to get. I had my headphones on, volume cranked up, hit play and Saturday Night Song started. At first I was like, ”Folk music, what’s this?!? Did Stones Throw let me down?” I let it play and thought that was one of the happiest tunes I’ve heard in a while. Red On Green kicked in and I knew. Head started nodding, fingers typing. By Flesh Of Morning I had a smile on my face and was happy as can be. Jonti bring a lot of familiar sounds and some that aren’t, and arranging them in an upbeat melody. Duke Westlake – Memory Palace

I don’t want to hold you back from listening to this great album, so this write-up is going to be short and sweet. Trek hit me up about Duke Westlake and, I admit I was totally sleeping. Duke chimed in on our twitter convo and showed me the video he did. (Kids shut your eye or skip the next two words.) F*CK’N CRAZY, so I had to post that too. Duke Westlake’s Memory Palace put me in this dream like, high energy, creative state of mind. I was instantly inspired to create something… anything. After the 4th round of Memory Palace I went back to work with round 5 playing. Very dope album that you need to hear.

Mike Gao – Sun Shadows

My man Mike Gao blessed me with a copy of his latest album Sun Shadows. He told me whether it’s good or bad just let him know what I thought of it. I dropped it in the iPod and cranked up the volume. I thought it was going to be 9 tracks of hypnotic beats that you can play in the background while you do other stuff… Boy was I wrong. Sun Shadows kicks off with this real space-age sounding organ in 10th Letter, and then the bass kicks in as if it’s going to snatch your breath right from you nose. Yes it caught me be surprise. It was like I was listening to each sound, each note, very carefully. If you think I’m pumped about it now, just wait until you get to Worthy Unworthy. Mike and I were talking about a magazine that was going to review Sun Shadows, but weren’t feeling it. I have to tell you, this is an album you may not get it… right now, but down the road it will click to you. You take a rapper, lets say NOCANDO, match him up with dope beatmakers, and you know a dope idea is getting ready to explode… HELLFYRE! Now throw in the homies VerBs, E.Super, Bomb Zombies, and a handful of other cats and you get the Hellfyre Club. To be honest I wasn’t sure what I was going to get outta this, but it was like a pleasant punch right in the face. Hellfyre Club presents Prometheus is packed with heavy hitting beats, and clever emcees. I just have to put it out there, but if you aren’t up on E.Super you need to be. Prometheus is the titan that stole Zeus’ fire and gave it to the humans…and Hellfyre Club has taken it and put it in your ears. Sotu the Taveller hooked up with Nalden to make this ill video for his track HourGlass. It tripped me out at first. I started to hear that backwards record sound on the track and the video was in forward motion. At first there were small changes I started to notice, like the video was going to the tempo of the track, then it would switch to just the beat. It wasn’t until I watched it a second time that I noticed half way through the video, that it goes in reverse. Just crazy. Check out Sotu the Traveller’s album Left on BandCamp. I was catching up on twitter and ran across a Jansport J tweet about a free download… Blaktastic Vol. 1. I’m all about the free downloads, but I took a second look at that one. “Blakface, what?!?” It was well worth that second take. At first I wasn’t sure what I was going to get, but a couple of tracks in I turned up the volume. If you walked up to me while Blakface Blaktastic Vol. 1 was bumping in my headphones, I wouldn’t be able to hear you. That’s how much I was intoit. Jansport J has 4 tracks on Blaktastic Vol. 1 (Can’t Let Em Down, Lady Hip Hop, Where U R, & Hello Mornin) that are dope, but you’ll dig this from beginning to end. Anytime that Haz Solo puts out a project, I listen to it. He recently teamed up with theOTHERSIDE to bring you this dope EP called Laundry Day. I’m not even sure if I need to talk about this one. Haz is a riot, so you know anything he spits is a build up to something funny. I’m waiting for Haz to have a show in LA. theOTHERSIDE (KENO the MC & Wallsauce the producer) are a dynamic duo you can’t sleep on. KENO living Salinas, Ca. and Wallsauce in Charlotte, North Carolina together they make an explosive sound that will get you dancing. Having all 3 on a single project, you now there is going to be more. When I first listened to Laundry Day, and if I didin’t know Haz, I would have thought this was a group from the jump. Mr. Crooks does it again with Diamonds & Guns. The title track is a banger. Diamonds & Guns puts you in an Audrey Hepburn movie with a heist and the villain gets away. Maybe it was the cover art that made me envision that. Either way Stevie Crooks kills that track. Crooklyn is another track that I can’t get outta my head. This is one artist not to be slept on. I got a link from this cat Hollywood Floss about his EP, The Xperiment. Vol. 1. The link lead me to Hailmegetron.net with an explanation of the concept. Hollywood Floss sent a few joints out to a couple of his frienda, and had them name the tracks. And then he would put the “experiment” out. Simple concept, but one I haven’t seen done to release an EP. Cool idea. When I first gave it a listen it wasn’t a sound I was expecting to come from Texas. Its an electric mix with a Hollywood Floss style. Hollywood Floss brings it with his witty lyrics over a nice choice of beats. He’s definitely one to look for. Hollywood Floss wrapped a project set to release some time in February, so keep your eyes open.
